What am I missing with darian kinnard? I think he looks like dog shit, I don’t want him anywhere near my team, he’s stiff, lead footed, uncoordinated as hell, he has a long windup motion before he lands his hands, he misses blocks because he’s so clumsy and uncoordinated, when he tries to block in space guys sidestep tf out of him and leave him lumbering around like an asshole.

he looks like a less athletic tyre phillips at best.

hahaha tyre phillips was genuinely the first name that came to mind for me too - but im with you, a bit like when i was watching petit-frere i was watching him having seen some day 1/day 2 hype around him and all i had was questions about my sanity

i saw violence and some upper body power and he created some movement in the running game and generally has some physical and athletic tools and traits but his pass sets are a mess and despite being 350lbs he somehow can't ever access his anchor so consistently got pushed back to compress the pocket, his hand placement was consistently awful and then didn't fight to refit the hands inside and despite some flashes of good run blocking he spent so much time on the ground falling off blocks

im 100% with you - im not touching him until day 3 and only as a project who's probably best suited inside if anywhere

tyre had miles better technique in pass pro and much better balance in his pass sets

kinnard would be basically a pointless pick for the ravens because he'd be a just another version of the last 2 guards we picked but even more of a project - i cannot see why he's so high on so many people's radars right now

after watching kinnard i cleansed my pallet with jamaree salyer who's everything that lots of people seemed to suggest kinnard was (a violent mauling guard who survived at tackle in college with good technique and hands)

I was questioning my sanity too lol, thanks for re affirming. I genuinely have no faith in him at the next level

im not writing him off but he's a developmental prospect who you have to break down and build back up while also changing his position - if you draft him you shouldnt expect anything out of him in year 1

my worry is that idk that while he's got some athleticism i dont think he's got the quick feet or processing or intuitive hands to survive at guard and he's definitely not a tackle

but this is why i love these boards - people are able to form their own opinions on prospects and come here to collaborate to find validation or find someone who can articulate why they disagree

there are always every year guys i just dont know what to think about and having others explain their "why" for some prospects really helps my varying opinions coalesce into a cohesive set of thoughts - feel like demarvin leal might be one of those guys based on what ive seen so far...

What does everyone think of jamaree salyer at RT?

i think he might ok at tackle - but i think he's much better suited at guard - he self-evaluated well (because he understood his limitations) - he had some limited range in his pass sets and used good snap timing and his length to survive against speedier outside threats - had a tendency to overset because of that limited range and it allowed guys to cross his face back inside

i think he could play tackle in a pinch and that has some value but to me he's a guard (and ive graded him and put him on my board as a guard) - worth pointing out too that Georgia initially projected him to guard too but he moved to tackle out of necessity and then stayed there because he was consistent and trustworthy - worth noting also that in the biggest game of the year they tactically switched him from LT to RG (and brought in their 5 star redshirt freshman to LT) and he sparked the running game from the interior and he and the georgia interior OL were able to grind down that Bama front

i think salyer's everything the ravens hoped tyre phillips would be - and much like phillips id much rather see him at guard

after DJ mocked him to us at 14 ive gone back to the tape again and i think i was probably a bit too harsh on trevor penning the first time around (he was the first prospect i started grading this year tbf) - i think he's got some technical stuff with his hands (mostly just placement) in the run game and he's not great with his angles and balance in space - but he's really good in pass pro and really technical with his hands and moves in pass pro too

senior bowl is big for him next week - because if i can satisfy myself with him vs some of those higher level of competition edge rushers (he's on the same squad as faalele) like Arnold Ebiketie, Boye Mafe, Myjai Sanders etc. then i think the projection becomes much easier

because he's a violent tone-setter - watching him was the first time i wrote down "plays like an asshole" in my draft notes and i meant it in a good way

i might like him for the ravens more than charles cross - gotta see that step up in competition in the 1v1s first though

EDIT: also didnt realise the UNI LG who played next to him is his younger brother lol

I personally would definitely take him over Cross for us. That isn't a knock on Cross. Penning is just more of an identity pick. Granted, I would want to trade down a bit if we were after him.

senior bowl will have an impact on his range like it did with Eric Fisher in a weak draft class in 2013 (and went 1st overall from central Michigan)

would love to have a nasty tone setter on the OL again - ekwonu or penning would fit that bill

I would agree. He’s got great guard feet, but maybe not so much for tackle. Do you think Kenyon green can play RT? I feel like he would be better suited, he’s got pretty superb feet and hands, I’d prefer him at G but I feel if we took him at 14 he could be a quality stopgap RT while we look for a more traditional RT before kicking green inside to G.

edit: green was one of the first prospects I watched this year, I had forgotten how good he looked. I’d be comfortable with him at RT. He’s a straight up stud.

i think athletically green's better suited than salyer at RT
his technique is a mess

kenyon's hands consistently getting high and wide and he's not active to refit them back inside, he doesn't bring his feet with him into contact as a run-blocker enough which leaves him leaning and ultimately means that he falls off blocks or loses his balance a lot

but i think there's a possibility that his better long-term position is at tackle but im not sure i can trust him there right away - with salyer there's no question in my mind he's a guard who can maybe play tackle in a pinch - with green i have legitimate thoughts that he could be a RT in the NFL - like a less ready alijah vera-tucker from last year

on my board ive got him graded listed as a tackle

the tools and traits (the athletic ability and the punch power) he has are awesome but hard to trust him straight away - ive seen people put him in the 1st round and im not sure i can take him that high let alone at 14 - not sure i can touch him until round 2

A few midround OTs that are worth a closer look are Rasheed Walker (Penn St), Braxton Jones (Southern Utah), Andrew Stueber (Michigan), Cade Mays (Tennessee), Obinna Eze (TCU), and Tyler Vrabel (Boston College).

i just replied in the general thoughts thread but have you seen Tyler Smith (Tulsa) yet - idk how high he's going to go but tyler smith's really really interesting

I just don’t see those issues with him, like at all. I don’t see issues with hands, reaching, leaning, none of it. He looks pretty squeaky damn clean to me, his hands do get wide I’ll say I’ve noticed and I think he could be prone to holds at a moderate rate, but I really
Don’t see the same issues you see

I really like Steuber and vrabel a lot

walker is a high upside guy but I think he’s pretty developmental. Would like to see him here if we can get him in round 4 but I highly doubt it
