Signings, Cuts, Trades

Word is Wagner is looking for a 1 year $11m, not sure if true but I don't think we'd be spending that much on him. Harbs also said its unlikely we would sign a FA C. Probably just going to resign a few players then onto the draft.

Yeah the C thing is interesting. Effectively leaves us to Mekari/TCC at C, or a draft pick.

If they're serious about giving Mekari a shot at winning the C spot, then I guess they legitimately may not be done adding Tackles earlier in the draft.

Either way, I think another body gets added to that competition at C at some point in the next two months.

I don’t get the sense from this answer that they’re intending to add anyone

He said mekari’s the starter going in and tcc will get the chance to compete and they’ll go from there - he seems pretty comfortable with the internal options

And with mekari, if that is the option, it’s clearly an indicator that they’re much more concerned about protecting Lamar than they are about opening holes in the running game - mekari’s issue as an IOL has always been to do with functional power at the point of attack but he’s always been a good pass protector when he’s played at any of the spots

Yup, the highlights I see from the presser:
1. Mekari likely to start at Center, feel good about in-house options.
2. He doesn't want to extend Overtime rules
3. Pass rushers, pass rushers, pass rushers
4. Not concerned about Lamar's contract
5. Changing the way they practice this year after heavy injury season. Will not be doing joint practices with other teams
6. We're actively pursuing Campbell and Wagner
7. Doesn't sound like there's any major concerns with any injuries from last year.

Another thing about this idea of protecting Lamar over opening holes is Moses is known for pass blocking over run blocking isn't he?

Also may indicate the Clevland has the best chance of winning LG at this very second on paper?

Does anyone think that 1yr deal for Bobby rumor even makes sense? He's too old, coming up on 32 to expect following a 1 year contract to get anothrr mega 3 or 4 year deal right?

no, I don't believe this is correct. The last couple years he has been a better pass blocker than run blocker, but prior to that he was good at both.

We won't be doing a one year contract at that price point. Just doesn't fit in pretty much any way from a cap perspective. Even with restructures or extensions, I can't see us going to like a $10M+ cap hit in 2022 for any player we sign.

I agree. My point was to ask whether rumor he wants 1 year 11m even makes sense

I mean I think somebody giving him 2 for 20 or possibly 3 for 30 makes some sense, but the guaranteed money probably wouldn't be anything beyond maybe year 1 or 2, so its sort of irrelevant.

But even like 2 for 20 with half guaranteed may be too much for us realistically. I just don't know.

I would think he should be looking for his last 3 year deal, but that just me. Obviously it's gonna have to be at least 2 of not 3 for us to make it happen. Can't understand why he would want a 1 year deal.

5. Changing the way they practice this year after heavy injury season. Will not be doing joint practices with other teams

this was the point that surprised me - i get all the stuff about changing practice methods in light of the injuries - but not sure i get the rationale behind the joint practices... we had one big injury during those practices with derek wolfe's whole back/hip thing that seemed like a freak incident but mostly joint practices are a controlled environment where QBs are more protected and contact is limited to specific drills... just seems odd that of all the things they'd roll those back

would suggest to me that we definitely wont see any starters in preseason unless they're rookies or in a position battle for the start - if we cant control injuries in joint practices, we definitely cant control injuries in preseason game situations
