The Random Thought Thread

Sure, but there's some obvious factors:
1. Edwards is owed about $4.4M in non-guaranteed salary next year, and all of that is cap savings if they move on. Which will be crucial if Lamar is on the franchise tag. That's a hefty price for a complementary RB.
2. Dobbins is going to miss probably most of the rest of this season, which means he'll pretty much head into the final year of his rookie deal with something like 6-8 games played in two years. That's not something you can hang your hat on. At the very least, it kills any possible non-team-friendly extension he would get this offseason, which means he'll at least head to FA.
3. Justice Hill and Kenyan Drake are both UFAs after this season.

So for me, while we don't actually have an "RB1", I don't see scenarios where Dobbins, Edwards, or Hill are the RB1 on this roster come 2023.
I think those are all very real concerns but to say that Dobbins is only in line for veteran minimum deals for the rest of his career is quite ridiculous. It may very well turn out that way but that's very reactionary right now.

But also fucking Mike Davis must be a cat because this dude has 9 lives. That failed experiment was looking likely to end and now he may just stick around with Gus and Dobbins likely swapping roster spots.

Far too early to make any of these determinations. Obviously not great news here but we don't have near enough info to know what's even being cleaned up here and what the long-term prospects are.

especially with how he instantly looked like the best RB in the room in his first snaps back from injury
if this is "just" a cleanup then there's no reason to think he won't be able to regain whatever form he was building this year at least even if that's not 2020 JK

but it's a massive shame that not only is he a RB so his career is shorter anyway but he's also now going to lose between 1/3 and 1/2 of his rookie contract time when he could have been a star

i do think this sort of stuff does make it unlikely he gets a large deal from the ravens in 16 months time

I was thinking the same thing. The reality is that both our RB's went down with significant injuries and now potentially 2 years for Dobbins. That's alot and strictly from a health perspective I'm not sure its fair to expect Dobbins to come back to form. I am rooting for him but the Ravens can't afford to go into next season with Hill and Drake as your healthy runners.

It's going to be interested to see what Gus looks like.

i was so excited when we re-signed Gus that we'd have him and JK working in tandem together for JK's whole rookie deal...

best laid plans and all that...

Time to draft a few running backs that ain’t injury prone.
For all of Dobbins big talk about wanting to play right away , it appears he really wasn’t ready .
If I were the Ravens I’d start from scratch at running back next year with the exception of Edwards , assuming he looks good coming up.
What a friggin disaster

But are there bellcow RBs that don't spend significant time on IR? To me, it seems like one can expect most to miss at least one season of their rookie contract, and usually gets worse on the second contract. The position as such takes too many hits for anyone not named Henry to withstand the punishmen. (slight hyperbole, but look at the big names in the league right now)

Anyone got any babes I can take to the game tomorrow, and then *huh huh huh*…. Score with after?

Dobbins wasn't injury prone. Neither was Gus or Hill. Peters had been fine until here and Moses never had a serious injury. Marcus rarely missed games. It has nothing to do with the players we drafted. We need to retrace steps last year and see which god we pissed off.
