The 2023 Offseason Thread

We’ve gone full off season already arguing about the value of Jacoby Jones. i will say this
1. Worst ravens tattoo of all time , looks like a 12 year old did his back
2. Was a good WR3 when Torrey and Boldin took all the focus
3. I do miss is random explosive punt/kick returns

oh he's one of the best returners in modern football history - not taking that away from him at all lol

so what you're telling me is, by that logic...
torrey smith has had a better career than jamarr chase simply because he's retired and his career is over
no. Jamarr chase has had multiple 1k yard seasons. Jamarr is much better than Torrey, but we HAVE NOT seen what Bateman can do, truly. We need another season from him before we say anything more. That's why I'm going to ignore this thread for like a day

You’re right in all this, ray lewis had no say in coach hirings or roster moves though so harbs obsession with faith is a much bigger conflict of interest than rays.
OK, but I've been told by many on here that John is basically just a puppet, does nothing, and that Ray and Ed coached the team for all those years while John just rode their coat tails.

So is that a lie or...

I also don't really see why a coach being religious is a conflict of interest? What's the conflict? If you show me how John doesn't draft people who are anti-religion, or intentionally benches players who are anti-religion, then that's a conflict. I'd need examples of that.

You’re just taking this too far. You’re speaking about others who say shit that I’ve NEVER said or even implied. And I never said he doesn’t hire/draft guys who aren’t religious, just following along with the playful theme of “harbaugh is a Bible thumping boomer and if he could he’d make his whole staff that way” because while it may be a joke from me/us, there’s a slight bit of truth there, obviously harbaugh can’t tell Steve not to hire EB because he’s not a devout Christian, but harbaugh pretty clearly favors a true believer over someone whos not.

Yeah your point is fairly obviously a feeling based on spending a lot of time watching Harbs the last 15 years. But my guy jacket has to use statements from other people to attack your post.

Well Bateman hasn't caught a mile high miracle. But he has caught a longer TD pass. Don't get me wrong, I like Bateman, and I may look back and say I was really dumb at this moment. But even so, he is not a WR1, him being WR1 would work less well than Torrey being WR1. Yes, he caught for over 1k yards, but the offense was really forced. I want him as our deep threat, not out WR1
He definitely has WR1 traits. Is he WR1 at the moment. No, but he has the talent and the nuance in his route running to be a very good #1.

Torrey smith is nowhere near what Bateman can be. The difference in the two is that Bateman is far better in every conceivable way except for health in his first 2 years, that’s it. And Bateman isn’t a “deep threat”, he is a full route tree type of receiver who also has deep speed. Big difference.

You need some film reviews my dude.
Batemen has got to be the first WR we've drafted capable of running the full route tree effectively. Its a strange feeling but I like it

Bro, free agency needs to come with the quickness. Yeah I know this offseason won't be as lit as last year's across the league but still....

Right, but I don't buy that he does. Where are the examples of him doing that?

If the argument is that John, and frankly the organization, have taken a much higher "moral stance" in regards to the players/coaches they acquire, draft, etc. (i.e. taking far less risks on guys with historical incidents of being shitty people), then I agree. I just don't know what that has to do with religion at all.

To be honest, it never even occurred to me to give a fuck about the religious background of any coach or really any player. The only one's that I know are devout Christians or not is based on the fact that they go out of there way to publicly acknowledge that they are (with or without being asked to share). Until this very topic came out, I never looked at John as a "devout Christian". I just didn't care. I think people are using it as a knock because they simply don't like John the coach, and they can't beat him on his resume, because its extremely high quality.

I'm not even necessarily saying it's you that does this. I'm lumping the whole fanbase into one, because it is one fanbase. And there 100% are various people on this message board that buried Steve for his stance on Ray Rice, but completely turned a blind eye to everything Ray did, everything Suggs did, and have been adamant for years that John, Eric and Steve need to start drafting a lot more "dogs" (whatever the fuck this means... nobodies ever been able to explain it to me) and people who aren't necessarily the best human beings.

And I struggle with the hypocrisy and lack of self-awareness of just how selective these people play the moral card, and the fact that people like Joe Mixon and Earl Thomas tend to be exactly who we thought they were in the long run. Regardless of how good or bad of a football player they are.

Also, I honestly don't know why Steve is even being brought up in the OC search. I'm sure he cares and has some input, but Steve doesn't hire coordinators. John does. John's going to decide who the OC is.

Just like John was the one that hired Kubiak. It wasn't Steve. The people that think it was literally don't know dick.

After a little research on david, he might just be the guy.. dude worked his way up from a highschool coach. Was involved with in seahawks game planning alot these past 2 yrs also. Was a qb coach, pass game coordinator and i heard him a call a play on the vid i had watched lol. He really big on religion like to the point he may not even curse.. welcome to bmore my guy
