The 2023 Offseason Thread

Is Keith Williams still about? It seems like he'd be a fit for the job. Last year wasn't encouraging but Engram had 4 years of bad results in the job.
Keith Williams is indeed still a option but it all depends on if Harbaugh still believes his role as passing game specialist fits better than a full time wide receiver coach . Engram really was never given much talent wise when he was The Ravens wr coach. Kind of unfair to judge him

I don't know. He was the pass game specialist, but the coaching staff hasn't really been updated outside of Monken.

I find the Taggart hire at RB coach strange. Craig Ver Steeg was the former RB coach and you'd think that you'd probably want to keep the RB and OL coach in place to help out Monken get the best out of our prior running games.

Maybe they think coach D is sufficient to do that.

Josina said they were gonna make more offensive coaching changes. I just hope they don't touch Coach D or Dubb. Don't really care about the rest so much.

worth noting RE: Ver Steeg - he's done a bit of basically everything since he's been in baltimore - he's often a guy they just move around on the offensive staff... sometimes he coaches specific positions and sometimes he's not even assigned a position at all

One thing i thought was interesting in the introductory presser was how Harbs mentioned Anthony Weaver and the committee helping him hire the OC

he's the assistant HC but normally that's almost entirely ornamental and comes with a salary bump - in this case it really seems like they're investing in him as a future HC maybe?

Noticed that too and was surprised why he wasn't just our DC last year.

Lol whoa. Not race. Just Harbs and his clique.

Forgot we in a new era now. Gotta be careful with my words
I wasn't trying to accuse. Just asking. There's actually quite a bit of that kind of talk on this forum.

Harbs definitely likes his small group of guys and then values his family's input crazily.

Not really sure why MacDonald would be in Harbs "clique" but Weaver wouldn't, but OK. Honestly promoting DC's from internal candidates is kind of Harbs "shtick". Him going for an outside hire is more surprising than him just promoting internally.

Both could be.. but Mike been with the Ravens since 2014. He in it in it.

Right, so he had more experience as an assistant than Weaver did with the Ravens, and also was a DC the prior year. Feels like a pretty good reason to hire somebody over the other guy.

“more experience as an assistant than weaver did with the Ravens.”

So hes in John’s clique more than Weaver.
I don’t get what we arguing about, we saying the same shit lol

lol I don't think there's a hierarchy to a "clique" is what I'm saying. They're both in the clique, and one is more qualified than the other. That's the reason why he was chosen over Weaver.

And IF there was a "clique hierarchy", neither one of these guys are at the top of it on the defensive side of the ball. That'd be Chris Hewitt. He was coaching the secondary here when MacDonald was still an intern.

Iunno. I wouldn’t say Mac is more qualified than Weaver on the outside looking in..

lol, I mean OK. Weaver had basically 10 years as a Dline coach with 5 different orgs, and MacDonald has 6 years as a defensive coach (DBs and LBs) and was a DC for one of the biggest college programs in the Country.

I'd take the latter, personally.

Also, again, pointing out that Chris Hewitt has identical experience to Weaver, except literally all with the Ravens, and he's not part of this discussion. He's #1 in the "clique hierarchy" by a Country mile.

absolutely helping him get a HC job someplace. That was my initial thought as well.
