The 2023 Offseason Thread

Derek Wolfe, Carl Davis, the NFLPA article, the covid stuff, the horrible amount of injuries.... I mean wtf. There's no chance players haven't been complaining for awhile.

I mean wtf is Harbs doing? How did we not poach someone from a team doing great and just fork over a little extra money? We replaced the worst guy in the league with the guy who was the assistant to the worst guy in the league. All he knows is Saunders shit.

Harbs not even looking at ANY Georgia tape. Not getting a better strength and conditioning coach, talking about Canales' faith, evaluating prospects based on their heart (I don't believe there's even one other coach in the NFL that would have it within themselves to utter something like that) etc.

The guy is a players coach and he keeps a great lockeroom no doubt. But my God is he not an Xs and Os guy and my God is he too loyal to people who don't deserve it.

NOT SUGGESTING WE FIRE HARBS. It's just some of his limitations are so frustrating.
Well, to be fair, what's the point of watching Georgia tape? To show how well Monken can coach against inferior defenses who can't cover anybody to begin with?

He shoulda been watching tape from NFL teams he coordinated, and my guess is he already did that or did that a long time ago. Don't really think Monken is the kind of coach you need to do a lot of scouting on to figure out if he knows what he's doing or not.

If anyone actually watched the entire presser Harbaugh never denied not watching Georgia Tape . He clearly stated that he watch some tape of the offense but did not focus on breaking down tape in regards to Monken offense in Georgia when they had their meeting and that the main focus was on going what Monken would do for The Ravens offense. I see no problem with that. In regards to Dave Canales he bought up somethings about this faith but that was not only thing he mentioned about him. The only reason why some have made such a big deal out of it is because Harbaugh is known Christian man. Also Harbaugh mentioning evaluating prospects base on their heart isn't something that should be a big deal. A player character does play a factor in drafting players. This is really not some new discovery if a guy like Pickens probably didn't have character concerns he may have been drafted much higher than the second round.

One thing I didn't hear yesterday that I thought was interesting is EDC talking about Campbell. Basically doesn't sound like its clear-cut that he returns, despite Campbell saying he's playing next year. Feels like he, maybe more than anybody else, will have his future in Baltimore decided by what Lamar does (and doesn't do).

I'm not going to argue because I don't have the energy. I did watch the whole thing. Harbs only watched some that Monken actually brought to the interview to make his case for what he can and wants to do.

The other stuff is all fine. But you can't ignore the simple reality that because Harbs is not a traditional Xs and Os coach, he pours his time and energy into what he's better at which is interpersonal things. And that shows in the locker room and culture. Our locker room got an A from the NFLPA.

But I've always been down on this part of Harbs because I think the coaches more like Belichek and Reid, and Shanahan that are real Xs and and Os guys are significantly better coaches.

Harbaugh never said he watched some that Monken brought to interview not sure where you got that from. So there's been talk about Harbaugh not being a tradational x's and o's coach for years because he never called plays on offense and defense but yet Ravans fans seem to ignore the fact that his dad was a defensive coordinator at the college level before he eventually became a head coach. Harbaugh himself played defensive back at the college level before getting into coaching where he coached running backs, tight ends, outside linebackers, and defensive backs at the college level before becoming a special team coordinator. When he was hired by The Ravens to be their head coach he was the special teams coordinator and defensive back coach for The Eagles.

I'm quite aware that he never called plays even though special team coordinators call plays too but to think he wasn't given knowledge on the x's and o's by his dad or during his coaching career on the offensive side and defensive side of the ball before becoming a head coach is interesting. Also this is not argument but the questioning of Harbaugh intelligence is getting so tiresome especially when looking at yesterday presser by him. Look like some made a real big deal out of nothing to me but that's just my opinion. What I say isn't law and everybody going to interpret what Harbaugh said differently. It is what is

Yeah this extremely weak as an argument. Harbs isn't an idiot who doesn't know anything about football lol. But he's certainly nowhere near the upper echelon of coaches with respect to strategy, game planning, play calling etc.

But that's ok because again, he has other strengths. It's ok to acknowledge the man is good at somethings and not others.

Add Bam Bradley to the list of call outs now.

Wolfe
Davis
Adeboyjo
Bradley

Now Rashod.

I don't really care about him being no where near the upper echelon of the coaches you mention previously when it comes to x's and o's. The reality of it all Harbaugh has probably already beaten those coaches in a game before or atleast rarely was outcoach by them . Every head coach has their flaws no coach is perfect but you legit went from saying Harbaugh not a traditional x's and o's coach to now he's not on the level of Andy Reid, Kyle Shanahan, and Bill Belichick. Not alot coaches are though to be honest

Damn this is not a good look with all of these players calling us out on this front. Glad a change was finally made but seems this has been a long-term issue and it only being "resolved" now seems like a problem.

The problem is that it’s a in-house hire and from Steve’s staff. Let’s hope training staff and strength coaches get along now and mesh their training together instead of fighting now… jesus

I definitely have some concerns that it’s from the same tree, but by some accounts Saunders was a dictator type. So maybe there’s a better relationship with the new guy.

Honestly, at this point, I don't care. Seems the culprit isn't here anymore. I'd have rather seen this type of feedback happen when there was something that could be done about it. Not wait until a report with anonymous reviews comes out and then everybody jumps on the bandwagon.

If I see players come out and say they openly lobbied for a new strength coach and John ignored them for years, then I get the outrage. Just feels like all these guys blame Steve and then wait until he's fired and pile on.

I’m telling yall…

Can’t wait til Harb is gone.

I haven't changed my position at all. Harbs not being an Xs and Os coach is a legitimately commonly used phrase even by himself I believe. You're just misinterpreting it.
