The Defence, Keaton Mitchell and the Fumbles

He doesn’t need stat padding. MVP isn’t a stat race, it’s usually the qb of the most competitive team who relies on their qb who played great to be the most to be competitive, if that makes sense.

2019 we went 14-2 and Lamar won mvp not because he had padded stats, but because he was the reason we went 14-2 with an outstanding performance.
In 2019 Lamar lead the league in TD passes, had the highest QBR in football, and rushed for 1200 yards. The stats helped him A LOT not to mention every week having a highlight reel play. None of that is happening this year. When people look at highlights of these games they are looking at either the defense or Mitchell making plays.

Basically right now if I were to rank the likelihood of MVP I would probably go in order: Mahomes (the default choice), Tua (has all the stats), then Lamar (best overall team but that doesn't always mean MVP as Hurts will tell you), and then keep an eye on Burrow who has been on fire the past month and could sneak back into it the last half of the year.

While the passing stats were there they were set up by his knack to break a game open running the ball. IMO it was his electric and scintillating running abilities that separated him and put him at the top of the MVP pile in 2019.

I’m really enjoying watching the team get better as the season goes along.

My only complaint with yesterday is Zay getting 1 target. Stop this bullshit placating to OBJ, Zay is the better player and should be getting those targets. I get it, OBJ is head case , and if he doesn’t get the ball he will have a meltdown … but Zay is so much more dangerous with the ball.

I don't really think the team is focusing on guys except maybe yesterday with trying to get OBJ involved somewhat. Without watching the coach film Seattle might have played Zay a certain way. Also, best now to feed their egos as the team works to become their best self so everyone is content come playoff time. People are mentioning trying to keep Oweh and Justin. I wouldn't be too upset if we could work out a team friendly deal with Nelly.

Teams know Zay Flower is a threat so im sure they going to do their best to keep him from making plays so its probably going to be games where he only gets 1 target but at the same time I don't think OBJ showed yesterday that he can't still make plays so its in the team best interest to get him and Bateman involved more often so Flowers whom is a rookie can have more room to make plays himself. It was dope to see Monken/ the team give Beckham the opportunity to get a touchdown on his birthday though but I don't think Monken force feed the ball to OBJ.

If our defense can keep this up, then we are looking at a very serious super bowl contender. Getting pressure on 4 man rush and playing the style of coverage we do, interior pressure, great team tackling, we have a super bowl kind of defense, MAYBE even the kind of unit that could go deep even with a weak offense. These dudes are looking like one of the all time franchise great kinda units.

If we get hot on offense in January y’all look tf out I’m telling you. Especially the way our OL and Gus is playing late in games all of a sudden, that’s January football. Goddamn I hope we keep this going

I’m just picturing burrow and mahomes and Allen, they just can’t get off the super late throws they usually do because oweh, ro, queen, madubuike, and clowney are ON THAT ASS! Too fast for these dudes. Telling y’all boys, been saying it since last offseason, this is our year but it’s not gonna be Lamar and the offense, it’s gonna be the 2nd or 3rd greatest defense in franchise history.

im happy we play bengals, dolphins, niners during this stretch.. we will have basically seen almost every style of offense.. gonna need that for a playoff run. Other than bengals, no other team in afc scares me. Nfc got that almighty roster team in those eagles, now theyre a problem

Yeah but he had like 40 total tds in '19, he only has like what 15 so far when the ravens are in the rz its going to be a run

If health stays on our side this could be one of those teams that roll through the post season. I'm talking the games aren't even fun to watch for the opposition. We both agreed 2nd year defense under Mike would be a thing of beauty but I don't think we pictured this. Coming into the season I thought the passing game would improve but wanted to see how the run game looked. I can't put into words how these last few weeks have felt watching this team.

Only team in the afc that would give this team problems is miami
I'm not buying that necessarily either.
For starters, pretty much every "good" D that has played Miami has successfully stopped their O. Buffalo, Philadelphia, KC. Our defenses are on the same level as those, if not better, though in some ways we do different things. They've scored 20 points or less against all three of those teams.

Most importantly... I think Miami's D is extremely average. It'll get a little better with Ramsey back in the mix, but it doesn't scare me at all. I think you can easily expect to score 25-30 points or more against them if we played them.

I'd still prefer to not play the Chiefs, and I want to see one more "fully healthy" sample size game in about 10 days against the Bengals. Burrow and Mahomes scare the hell out of me, and the Chiefs D is legit very, very, very good.

We have consistently played Cincy tough though, so we will see what happens there.

In terms of where we are today, I think we're the best team in the league. But that's today. We need to use the next several weeks to set ourselves up for a brutal stretch later in December, and then pray for health. Health is the one thing we need to bank on the most. And cleaning up some of the sloppiness with ball control.

Im probably the only one but i dnt like 2019 lamar. Loved his running ability but as a passer, naw. He was throwing passes in the dirt back then. We havent seen that shit since
So hard to judge Lamar in that offense and those WRs. Pretty cool we ran the league with that team

After that London game I don’t wanna see Tua’s name again in any conversation honestly. He throws ducks and can’t beat good teams, that fumbled snap was on him, half of their success are scripted plays

Wins aren’t a QB stat no more than they are a G stat.

What are stats are likely going to be padded getting to play Raiders, Commanders, Titans, and Bills. That means he will likely have all of the stats and win his division which makes him a front runner regardless of how good he is.

The stats do matter. If we were just going to pick the best QB and give them MVP we could save time and give Mahomes the next 10 before the season starts.

If Lamar wants to get a leg up in the race he needs to put together some great performances. So far, as there is 1 game left, we have seen 4 excellent/great QB games this week in Stroud, Dak, Burrow, and arguably Hurts (played against by far best defense of the 4 and carved them up for 3 quarters). Then you had about 6 good performances but good does not get you in the MVP conversation.

We should be 9-0 and it’s really frustrating
Exactly! We should already be the #1 seed in the AFC at this juncture. Hopefully, our boys can continue their reign of terror and extend their lead for the division against the Browns. I find it interesting that Lamar (w/Ravens) is 18-1 against NFC teams but I believe that is because they don't see him that much. These AFC teams? That's a different story. Hopefully, we get over these AFC hurdles (i.e., browns, bengals, and chargers) in their next 3 gm stretch.
