Next Up: vs. Steelers

You know Ronnie, Zietler and Moses will probably sit due to nagging jnjuries . .

Why would you play Lamar with 3 starters out ?
Mekari is good and cleveland just had an excellent game for Zeitler. Was Faalele rotating with moses this game?

Yeah it’s a tight one. I certainly get the appeal of sitting a bunch of the starters but only so much you can do. There’s a good chance a number of those guys are going to have to see the field whether we want them to or not.

it's also possible or even probable that all the choice gets taken from the situation anyway because we've got guys who are banged up who therefore shouldnt be playing

takes the decision out of everyone's hands

if pierce, worley, stephens, marlo and hamilton all cant play then that's already 5 of the inactive spots gone already... throw in a likely deactivation for ronnie and zeitler and we're running out of spots anyway - PQ been banged up recently also

can obviously have starters active but not play but i imagine that a lot of those guys will want to play if they're dressed - gonna be hard to stop some of those guys from getting on the field especially coz its the steelers

Here's your potential backup starting lineup and the associated depth...

Assumed inactives: Malik Cunningham (QB3), Lamar Jackson, Ronnie Stanley, Kevin Zeitler, Brandon Stephens, Marlon Humphrey, Kyle Hamilton

QB: Tyler Huntley | Josh Johnson
RB: Melvin Gordon | Gus Edwards, Justice Hill
FB: Pat Ricard
WR: Tylan Wallace, Laquon Treadwell | Nelson Agholor, Rashod Bateman, Zay Flowers, Odell Beckham
TE: Charlie Kolar | Isaiah Likely
OL: Patrick Mekari, Sala Aumavae-Laulu, Sam Mustipher, Ben Cleveland, Daniel Faalele | Morgan Moses, John Simpson, Tyler Linderbaum

DL: Brent Urban, Broderick Washington, Travis Jones | Michael Pierce, Justin Madubuike
OLB: Malik Harrison, Tavius Robinson | Jadeveon Clowney, Odafe Oweh, Kyle Van Noy
ILB: Trenton Simpson, Del'Shawn Phillips | Roquan Smith, Patrick Queen
CB: Ronald Darby, Rock Ya-Sin, Pepe Williams | Arthur Maulet
S: Geno Stone, Daryl Worley | Marcus Williams

ST: Justin Tucker, Jordan Stout, Tyler Ott

That's 46 total and does not include the 2 PS elevations... but that almost has to be secondary help in this scenario. But typing all of this out to illustrate that your depth here is all of your stars for the most part. You cannot avoid these guys not playing at least some snaps most likely.

i mean Watt has definitely done dirty shit (and attacking the knees of OL is the worst and most consistent one) but those clips are awful lol - the one on zay and the one on browning he's literally just trying to get the ball out lol... he just misses
He looks dirty as hell to me in these clips. hasn’t he dived at Lamar’s lower legs too ?

Silver lining is if we lose it could keep Josh Allen out of the playoffs, one less dangerous player to worry about

Why do you assume that Pierce can't play? He was back in the game at the end of it.

Can’t be scared. It could happen week 18 in a meaningless game or first quarter of the divisional round, the result is the same, but none of it will matter if 3 weeks pass and our boys forget how to execute for the whole first half on gameday
The debate rages on. I’m always torn on this. How do you rest your players and keep them game ready for the most important games of their lives? I think coaching is most critical during these times. Harbs has a decent record coming off of byes so I will default to “I don’t want Lamar, or any other key player injured in a meaningless game”. But then again it is the Steelers we’re playing. lol

No way will they play Lamar in this game. Also, this is not 2019 with Lamar much more mature and a far better player than he was then.

This team feels completely different than the 2019 team and in a good way.

I think you can balance it, but for the most part, you favor rest. Everybody thinks it won't happen to them, and its not exactly apples to apples, but Bradley Chubb tore his ACL out on the field playing in a game where his team was down 30 with like 4 minutes left.
We don't have enough bodies where we can sit 22 starters realistically, but most of your key/critical guys are going to be limited or out for the majority of the game.

If we're healthier and come out flat, so be it. There's nobody who can advocate for us playing everybody all game long, because you'll still have a week off regardless.
