2024 Training Camp

I'm going to go through a few of the preseason performances, but I am very much hoping that Corey Bullock and Bump Cooper Jr. look as good as they've been graded. Bullock especially could be a significant asset given how unsettled our OL seems at the moment. And I know we're loaded on the backend. But Cooper not giving up a catch in 3 games should hopefully be enough to make the final roster. I'm partially biased. They were among my favorite UDFA prospects in general before we signed them. But I would carry Bullock and Cooper over Malaesala Aumavae-Laulu and Jalyn Armour-Davis/Pepe Williams, respectively, because I feel like the preseason has validated how high I had them.

JAD has been good. Pepe has been awful

Yep. I believe the depth is weaker, but it's also totally understandable. You need guys on rookie contracts to play and play well when you have a QB and a host of other guys at or near the top of the market. Sucks when they don't rise to the occasion but the story isn't written and there are still opportunities to get better players if needed too. Not everything has to be some veteran that has been around the block.

im also not sure where a veteran comes in and changes this team again

maybe edge like last year...
idk that an OL comes in and improves us at this point in the offseason

key context about when those guys have been on the field this preseason - level of competition and time of entry suggests that neither of those 2 guys are a threat to make the 53

got a decent change at the practice squad though

think what's most encouraging about this "messy" OL this preseason is that we've seen individual improvements from them

rosengarten looked far more comfortable in preseason 2 and 3 vs preseason 1
vorhees had awful hand placement in preseason 2 and was massively improved technically in that aspect in preseason 3

these guys are going to take their lumps (and we're going to have to live with it early) but in the long-term they look like 2 guys with really nice upsides and the right growth mindsets to actually become quality starters

faalele looks pretty good too - just severely limited in his IZ/OZ run blocking ability

OLB makes the most sense, but I’d let the young guys roll and look for a KVN in season addition if necessary.

RB and ILB make the most sense on cut day. Think there are much better depth options out there.

I don’t disagree on OL. Think it would highly depend on who is available and I don’t expect much good. Think some vet interior depth might be most helpful.

Decent chance of making the practice squad would be a slap in the face of what they've shown. How and when they came in, to me, is irrelevant. You can only play when you get the chance, and I think it'd be foolish to give either one a chance to get sniped by another team. I think they've cleared their counterparts so far. I'd rather have the guys that looked the part in college on film and have parlayed that into terrific preseasons.

there's a reason they enter late and play that level of opponent - it's because they're repping behind their counterparts in practice and havent earned those reps to earn earlier entries

Manning, Dalcourt and Samac have consistently been playing ahead of bullock - how bullock performs is surely relevant, the fact that he hasnt had a chance to enter earlier over those guys despite the high grades should tell you everything you need to know

cooper's at a position where we have lots of options - if he makes it, it wont be for his CB play it'll be for his special teams and hard to imagine he's ahead of hollman for example on a special teams basis

if a sam mustipher type became available then sure, come on down OL 9

I know they’re your boys but I don’t think either have a fleeting shot at the 53

I can't take that as an immediate assessment of how far along they are in practice given that they were both UDFAs and forced to work their way up the chain.

Given how terrific Cooper has fared at CB, it would absolutely play a part into his roster status. Agreed on how much his performance at ST matters as well, so I'm with you there. But it'll be a mixture of both at minimum, potentially preferential towards ST. Limited playing time, level of competition, those matter to at least some extent. But I had draftable grades on these two. Bullock specifically, I had as a 4th round talent with starting potential. He comes in and is the highest graded OG in the entire draft class. Whether or not he or Cooper pan out is still a question mark. But getting me to cosign those minimizing either of them considering that I expected them to perform well is a difficult ask considering. At this juncture, they've done enough for me to feel as confident in my assessments as ever.

Cowards, all of you.
At risk of not being a coward, I can see a world where Bullock isn’t even a top choice for the PS depending on who cracks the 53.

We know the main 3 in the competition and I’d guess whoever doesn’t make it there is a top candidate. Guys like Pearl and Dalcourt have also seemingly been above him in the rep order too.

I get that way of thinking. I don't expect people to immediately hop on the wagon just because I'm driving it. This is just objectively the least reasonable time for me to slow the breaks.
