The Defence, the Offence, and the Tucker

He has 9 games without a sack....I know that does not tell the whole story but even one on one today he was bottled up. He had a few good plays but mostly held in check.
One of my big issues last year was that he wasn't winning his match ups consistently and generating consistent wins. He was being schemed free and a major beneficiary of a great secondary.

Those issues are very much rearing their ugly heads.

One huge game against Cincinnati is making his stats look moderately okay, but he's been Casper most of the season.

You are not gonna win close games with Tucker missing 3 kicks in a game .

Just not gonna happen and the players know this too .

Tucker will be replaced next year but he will likely cost us in the playoffs in cold weather .

How long would you give one of best kickers in NFL history to get his head right? I mean another season where we were picked to compete for a championship could be riding on Tucker. It just breaks my heart to see this happening to him, but something has to give PDQ.

I’m taking the rest of the season off.

If life is better without football, I’ll just stop watching entirely.

I’m done.
1. Taking a week or two off is great. I missed yesterday decorating the house and watching Christmas movies with my kiddos.
2. It’s harder to enjoy it when the media and some fans keep talking about a Ravens SB non stop. If that’s the mindset, fans are going to be frustrated. Outside of Lamar, we’re pretty average across the board and not a SB contender.

An insane year of unforeseen benchings.

Idk anything but why would Harbs say he's willing to comment but doesn't have the info? Wouldn't it be him dolling out said punishment?
Coach speak. He knows exactly what’s going on. He’s just choosing not to comment at this time. Maybe it’s a conversation with him today to see if they can smooth things over before publicly throwing him under the bus.

I don't think this is a matter of Tucker getting his head right. What is he supposed to work on? He's done. When you're at the point of missing extra points it's time to go. They said it was technique but then why hasn't it been rectified? It's weird because he doesn't seem to have lost much leg strength, he's just inaccurate as heck.

Idk, but he's cost us 2 games. 1 really important divisional game. I wonder if he's missing these kicks in practice as well?

Those missed field goals and extra points are game changers. They flip momentum and give the other team great field position. It was demoralizing watching it, so I can just imagine what was in the minds of our Players. Players are not as tight playing from a lead or Tucker put us down two score late in the fourth quarter. IMHO, this loss and the Steelers game is squarely on Tucker. He has to go.

250 total yards by Eagles. At no point did it feel like they could drive down the field at will. Kudos to the Eagles , it just felt like they had a better plan to string together their best plays and score, their coordinators clearly held an edge over ours.

Really, really weird. At 35 you'd expect him to lose some leg and still be lethal from about 54 and in (instead of 60 at his peak). It's like he's going deaf or something. Only other thing close to an explanation is last year's injury, maybe it left him overcompensating.

Certainly possible. But Harbs is not a guy who shys away from the phrase I'm not gonna get into that right now. He specifically and weirdly said I'm willing to comment on that but i don't have all the facts. Maybe those mean the same thing

I mean it might be partially true too. If a guy is supposed to be there 2 hours before the game and only shows up an hour and a half (just for the sake of argument, I don’t know the actual time), a coach isn’t going to interrogate him there and ask why. He’s worried about everyone else being prepped. That’s a convo that can wait until the next day theoretically.

Another week where the defense shows up and the offense shits the bed. The offensive stats may look semi OK, but don't tell the story of failures on third down and in the red zone. Hard to believe this is the same Lamar and Co. who just a few short weeks ago was being looked at as possibly one of the best offenses ever. Just not taking advantage of the opportunities.

Not sure what to say about Tuck, thought he had found his stride last week. Feel so bad for him, he's such a great guy. Nobody receives more shame and criticism than the kicker when they screw up, and it has to be especially tough for a guy that has been considered the GOAT.

Good news here is we finally made it to the bye, hopefully we get it together and make a run.

My thoughts:
1. Tucker sucks right now, and I'm not sure what the solution is. Doing an open competition during the bye week makes a ton of sense. I know there's folks that will say "well there's nobody better", but there are multiple teams who have signed kickers off the couch this season alone to replace injured kickers, and as far as I can see, basically all of them would be more accurate than Tucker right now.
Kicking is mostly mental. All of these guys have legs, and most are pretty accurate with them. He has a short runway to get it right, otherwise, they can't finish the year with him.
The challenge is I don't think they can cut him either, which means they either need to fake an injury and put him on IR, or roster two kickers, which isn't ideal. Though we don't have many injured inactives right now, so that may not necessarily be impossible.
2. Think we need to do same at kick returner. Have a lot of guys that can do it. Can't just assume Wallace can.
3. Lamar's stats were fine, but he wasn't very good. Took a couple horrible sacks on plays he had ample time to throw it away, missed several very make-able throws, and generally just refused to run.
4. We got bullied up front. Our Oline got pushed around practically all game. Eagles have maybe the best front in football, and it showed. And I thought their Oline did pretty well in pass protection.
5. Thought the defense was otherwise very stout. We did a pretty good job until mid-4th quarter stopping the run, and this might have been the second best defensive performance of the year, given the context of the opponent.
One long-term concern... I like the switch to Washington and Hamilton playing two-high, BUT, against a team like Philly, who can run the ball well, it exposes a bit the weakness of not having him in the box more. Not a lot of teams will be able to expose that, but I think there's some playoff teams that can.

At a macro-level, might be the most concerning game of the year for me. Plenty of the other losses like Raiders, Steelers, Browns, etc felt like games where we beat ourselves. Sloppy penalties, turnovers, etc. Didn't really have much of that yesterday. Bad special teams play hurt, but otherwise, we got bullied by a more physical team. Not something we're used to seeing.

Per usual, not really the time to overreact. Definitely hurts our chances of winning the division, but playoffs aren't really in doubt at this point, and we have a much more favorable schedule the last four weeks (and Pittsburgh's is very tough). What happens in January, who knows.

Agreed! I told a friend (a Cowboy fan) similar things after last night's game. This loss gutted me!

Do you feel the Ravens can turn the corner on this trainwreck of a performance going forward after 2 weeks of not playing (i.e., up next to the Giants, Steelers, Texans, and Browns)?

You're right! Not in here! I do with my friends who are fans of other NFL teams, that I see each week (i.e. Steelers, Eagles, Cowboys, Commander). All of those friends I just mentioned have been texting me left and right since that loss. Sickening bro! :brickwall:
I feel your pain, at least the bengals kicker is awful too

Get a backup kicker now. The Ravens will be looking to draft one next year, so why not get an experienced replacement now and save the draft pick? What’s the downside to doing so; you hurt Tuckers feelings? So what? He knows this can’t continue.
Tucker seems to be reasonably accurate from long range, so maybe use him at 50+ yards out; use the new guy for everything else.
Currently, there is a collective gasp by everyone in the stadium and all the viewers at home whenever Tucker lines up to kick. The expectation at this point is that it’s 50/50 at best if he makes it. That’s not a good situation and has got to be adding to his anxiety.
To continue with Tucker as he works through whatever issues he is dealing with is unacceptable.

I think we're certainly in a position to go 3-1 or 4-0 in our last four. This team can beat anybody when it all comes together.

Obviously the two things I want to see is a) what happens with Tucker (my guess is nothing) and b) if they make any changes to the interior Oline. I would bet we'll see Vorhees, likely at a LG, when we come out of the bye.

Mark Andrews had one of his best games of the season,
Isaiah Likely is underused and it pisses me off. Whenever Lamar gets to play backyard ball with him like the end of the game its magic. he should get targets over nelson.
Yea not sure what’s going on with Likely but seems like a crime not to have him more involved if he’s healthy. Agholar dropping 2 dimes probably had eagle fans circle jerking hard
