The Random Thought Thread

Maybe read again, "middling" was describing the 2012 defense.

Been playing great, but despite stats I wouldn't yet call them "elite". Still some holes and inexperience there, room for improvement.

How do you define elite then if not by stats? They turned it around don't let your bias prevent them getting their flowers.

The NFC playoff picture makes me think it might be time to rework playoff seeding. 3 teams with 11+ wins and one possibly with 14 wins will go on the road in the first round.

The best suggestion Ive seen:
1. Winning a division gets you a spot in the playoffs but not necessarily a home game.
2. 4 best records get a home game.
3. If a Division winner fails to win 9 games, the division is excluded from playoff contention if another WC team is available with a better record.

What about their stats says elite?
16th YPG
14th Tot yds
13th in points
2nd in sacks
13th in TO forced

They are also greatly helped by the fact Lamar and company are 6th in the NFL in TOP.

They are a bad defense that has turned it around to become a good but not great defense. Certainly no where close to elite no matter how much you or Rossi may dislike Tank

Look past week 11 where the Marcus Williams benching for Ardarius plus Hamilton playing Safety occurred. The stats will be a lot better. That being said, no shot its an elite group. A respectable one though!!

suggestions like this have come across for years now, but you can't really do this. Not to take anything away from Washington, but they have beaten two teams with a winning record and one of them only played 5 minutes of the game. It sucks for the Vikings and the Lions, without question though. We did something like this in a strike year back in 1982-83. However it was just based on record on how a team would get into the playoffs.

Yea for sure, respectable and even good enough to win a championship when paired up with our offense

The conversation is after week 11 so you're either being disingenuous or you can't read. I have no issue with Tank either so maybe try another angle to discredit my comment champ.

Scrap the blopdy conferences! It makes zero sense to subdivide the league into halves and always risk getting the top two teams being on the same half. I know all US sports have conferences, but as an outsider, there is no point in it except giving out a meaningless conf champion title

they are close to the top defense in the league since week 11 and I agree they aren't elite. Definitely a good defense though since week 11.I
They absolutely improved, but I don't put much stock in the "since week 11" argument considering the talent they faced and the fact the Bengals put up 500 yards on us in week 10. Not like we switched a magic switch, just havent run into a good offense since.

They are the happy median of the two IMO.I think well be fine in the playoffs with them but I'm not expecting to them to play as a top unit.

Would you scrap conferences and divisions? I do like the idea but I think the NFL is too large to get away from it. Especially if your comparing it to something like the EPL where i think they only have 20 teams..

I like the idea of conferences not mattering in the Pro Bowl to shake it up a bit. You still do AFC & NFC voting but a draft held is to put the teams together and any player can be chosen regardless of conference. So Lamar throwing to Justin Jefferson or Jayden Daniels throwing to Chase or Higgins, etc.

Otherwise, yeah conferences aren't going anywhere.

The divisions make sense since there are so few games, but without conferences, the out-of-division games could be rotated equally among the other seven

I don't see it happening, but a conference-free wildcard seeding and playoff would be a strong preference for me

Happy new year y'all

Bias? What bias? I was one of very few early on saying the D would improve as the season progressed, and a huge supporter of Zach while most were calling for him to be fired. I'm proud of what they have accomplished so far. lol Ravens D is to be judged by the highest standards and they are still a work in progress.

Stats never tell the full story. I define elite as performing consistently against the stiffest competition, and excelling in the most difficult situations. You could have so so stats and be elite, as well as having top stats and remain unproven. In my mind that's where our D is right now.

Seems there's a strong chance we play another international game in 2025. Miami is slated to play in Brazil, Steelers are expected to be playing in Ireland and Green Bay is getting another one next year.

This is fucking disgusting he’s having the worst year of his entire career.

The only sport I care about, frankly my only “hobby”, the only thing I’m passionate about, and these gay ass teenage girls and single moms have to pollute it.

I like my popstars and sports separate like church and state.
