According Aditi (top Steelers reporter) he is being taken to the hospital but has been pointing to his hip. It is possible he shattered that, although his movements did not seem to indicate that at all.

The official reports are saying it’s a back injury which is what it looked like.

Wow.... Shazier's injury made the Steelers defense even more vulnerable. Moving down the field no problem.
To be fair yes the injury hurts them but you have to factor the emotions the Steelers feel right now. It was announced he was taken to the hospital, imagine standing on a field and being forced to continue to play as you hear a yell your close friend and team leader was carted off to the hospital.

It really sucks for Shazier though.... He was pointing at his lower back it seems like and the commentator said he wasn't moving his legs. I can only hope it isn't a career ending injury. Can't see any NFL player egregiously injured.

If the Bengals beat the Steelers in this game (likely), then the Steelers are going to be hyped for next week against us. Hopefully the loss of Shazier doesn't inspire them to play flawless football against us. But, no matter how sucky I feel about our team generally speaking, I am always of the belief that we're better than the Steelers and can beat them no matter what. Right now I don't feel sucky about our team at all. In fact I feel good. So, I believe after next week we'll be 1 game behind the Steelers.

It is really hard to tell with the T.V cutting out but I did notice he was on his stomach and ended up on his back. No chance the medical staff would have moved him, you never do that with a back injury. If he was able to roll over that is an amazing sign. He likely broke a disc in his back, but i really hope and don't think he got paralyzed

it sounds like he was pointing at his hip as he went into the ambulance - either way that's not a great sign because that injury has come from a force applied to his head and has rippled a pretty decent length down his body

im really worried about this injury

he rolled over by himself before anyone stopped him from doing so - he seemed to have full use of his arms so he may have levered himself over although you are right that it is promising that he was able to end up manoeuvring himself flat on his back in the first place

either way this kind of injury is one we were always taught about avoiding when playing rugby when we were younger and it was almost always through bad tackle technique (or front row collapsing in a scrum but that's not an applicable circumstance for the nfl) and either getting your head on the wrong side of the hip or straight on to the hip

at this point im hoping its a good prognosis whatever it is and that he can live a healthy life but those sorts of scenes have to make you wonder about his career (especially given his injury history already and then this one on top of all that) even if the prognosis suggests he can return

@rossihunter2 you're right. In addition, he is done with his contract. He has the 1 extra because of the option, but regardless that is easy to opt out of. He has already missed 1/4 of his career with many various injuries, and this could be it. He could pull a Jason Worlds

it could end up being a combination of concussion risks and a (hopefully only) near career ending injury might make him reconsider his career a bit like chris borland

Yea I agree it is a very logical option in this generation. I wouldn't blame him, he is still a smart young man with a full life ahead of him. Even if he does come back it is injuries like those that make players never the same.

well and it would be irksome as well if this injury is as bad as it looks given that his poor and reckless tackle technique is an ingrained part of why he's so good - it's because he's a heatseeking missile from sideline to sideline towards the ball who doesnt slow down to tackle and it always means he's vulnerable to a bad knock like today - it's hard for him to adjust that technique and still be the same player
