The Random Thought Thread

Random thought here..

I hear a lot about “explosive” offense, especially from our players and coaches, how they’re looking for an explosive offense etc.

Am I crazy for thinking that maybe we should aim for less explosiveness and more steadiness and consistency? Like we know Lamar can scramble and hit zay on a broken play where he cuts through the defense for 50 yards, but what I want to see more of is just being on schedule consistently and moving chains against different types of defensive schemes. I may be wrong but I feel like when a defense knows how to stop the run and then put a cap on the explosive plays, we shit the bed and can’t get the offense started with rhythm pass plays designed to counter those defensive styles.

It seems like if we can’t get Henry or Lamar breaking runs, or hit a big pass play, then we just shut down.

Idk maybe I’m tripping but I just don’t think more explosive plays is what we need, we need more consistency in the other areas.

Rant over.

ON the Henry and Lamar breaking runs end, I think we have a more consistent run game next year. Last year it felt like we had way too many negative runs, and don't expect to see that nearly as much.

Spot on. Improvised plays aren’t something you can depend on, especially against the better teams.

Maybe more slants and illegal pick plays the bengals and Cheifs always do. But seriously Monken had no short passing game beyond awful WR screens it was frustrating. Hopefully we’re more on schedule anyway as a result of no Falalalaelel

It was weird. When Snoop was in the short, quick passes were called and worked like a charm. Don't know where that was with Lamar.

Exactly, something to give third and manageable if bombs away doesn’t work and the defense can make a tackle before Henry breaks it for 20

I think this was a case of overthinking and relying to heavily on Lamar's talent that caused this.

It was inexcusable that in a year when the line was struggling that they refused to go to the quick passing game until Lamar went down.

The run game also magically seemed to just be more consistent.

I could never wrap my damn brain around this. If we could look so efficient with such a limited and qb friendly offense, what the hell was stopping us from finding some middle ground when our star qb was in? It really seemed like the ability was there for monken, but he just couldn’t help himself, he eliminated half the playbook whether the starter or backup was in. When Lamar was in he always wanted to attack and would never work to make Lamar’s job easier even when it was needed.
