RB Thread

The only problems I have with drafting Guice is that using a 1st on a RB is stupid. And that would mean the end of Dixon’s chances of being a major contributor. And I really like Dixon.

Someone I follow on Twitter was doing tape study on hurst at tackle and noticed him get beat by geno Atkins (nothing really to be gained from that per se) but he posted the clip because it showed dixon running through 2 tackles despite being hit almost immediately and turning what should have been a stuff into a 10 yard gain

Dixon and Collins are a really nice complement to each other - they both turn negative plays into positives but their styles are different - Collins gets to the outside and makes a cut into space whereas Dixon can dance and break tackles between the tackles with his illusive power

They really do complement each other well. I remember Dixon’s rookie season after he finally got on the field he led the league in yards after contact or something like that. He got me so excited his rookie year I really thought we had someone special. The problem is, even if he never gets suspended again, he’s seemingly always had problems staying healthy.

I love him as a prospect and, as you probably know, I went so far as drafting him in the forum´s game myself with the Hawks.
As you say, though, Ravens Oline looks like a big question mark in RL while the one I built gave me enough confidence to make the pick.
I don´t think that drafting a RB in the 1st is necessarily a bad thing but I´ll agree saying that selecting someone like MkGlinchey will hold better overall value here.
There’s no doubt he’s gonna be a good RB. My problem is that you can get very similar production from a guy on day 2 and even day 3. You can’t say that about many positions. Which devalues RBs for me at least.

You don't get a guy who's the face of your offense and maybe the face of the whole team if you draft a guy later. You can only get that with Guice, basically.

I just think that improving our line will do more for our running game than taking a top rb will. We already have two quality rbs. Give them some better blockers and we can easily be top five in the league at running the ball.

Having a RB as the face of your team doesn’t win you games. If they get the same production as everyone else I literally couldn’t care less.

Teams with stud RBs don’t win Super Bowls very often, sorry.
Same can be said for WRs but you can at least argue that the RBs who have been taken in the first round recently have been great hits ex: Gurley, Elliot, Gordon, Fournette, and Mccafrey all looking like great players

I dont see why Barkley and Guice wont have similar impacts on their teams

Ravens have two decent backs already. We need help at other positions, more critical to the team.

Considering there are great hits on later round RBs like Kamara, Hunt, Cook, Kenyan Drake, Alex Collins, Kenneth Dixon, Derrick Henry, Jordan Howard, David Johnson, Jay Ajayi, That argument would be pointless. And that’s only since 2015 Shall I go on? There’s a reason only 1 or 2 RBs are drafted in the first round every year. Great running backs aren’t vital to a teams success.

That a fan of the Ravens think this is... interesting.
Interesting fact for you. Out of the past 10 super bowl winners, only 2 teams had a first round running back on the roster. And the Saints were the only team that had a 1st rounder they drafted themselves.

Facts are facts bud.

And another fun fact for you.

Out of the last 10 super bowl losers, 6 had 1st round RBs. But that list consists of Rashard Mendenhall, Knowshon Moreno, Joseph Addai, and Jonathan Stewart, none of which are deserving of their first round selections.

Out of the last 20 super bowl teams, the only 1st round RBs that made a sizable impact to their teams super bowl appearance were Marshawn Lynch, Reggie Bush and Rashard Mendenhall, who had one of his only good seasons.

this is a tad misleading stat though..
I just went through the rosters of 2007 2008 2009 SB contenders and already there (the first 3 of the 10 aforementioned SBs) you can see a pletora of RD1 RBs on those rosters:

2007
IND - Joseph Addai
CIN - Cedric Benson

2008
NYG -
NE -

2009
PIT - Rashard Mendenhall
ARI -

(1st rounders were NE and ARI RBs Laurence Maroney and Beanie Wells.. whether they were big or partial contributors is another stuff, then).
I´ve got no time to look further into later rosters cause bed is waiting for me, but we shall better look at a bigger picture here, not only the SB winners´ roster.. that stat alone doesn´t tell much, honestly.
We all know the Ravens should fill bigger voids with their first picks but that´s an other topic..

This is all meaningless. If they weren't big contributors they aren't worth mentioning.
