Mock Central

So far, I see 3 other mocks having us taking a QB.

Brooks: Lamar Jackson ... it seems possible that he'd be there. Doubt we'd pull the trigger
Jeremiah: Baker Mayfield ... I seriously doubt he's available here. Again, doubt we'd pick him, but may look to trade
Drafttek:Josh Allen. LOL. There is no way in the world he's going to be available at 16.

If Jackson is there when we pick, I think the more likely outcome is that we trade down.

Looking at consensus in mocks and big boards, it feels like there are 12 guys you can basically rule out for the Ravens at 16. 4 QBs Barkley, Chubb, Nelson, Ward, James, Fitzpatrick, Roquan and Edwards. Sure someone can slip, as Jonathan Allen did last year, but I'm writing off any of these guys as possibilities. The guys I think have a chance of reaching us are (in order of least likely to remain available):

Vita Vea
Marcus Davenport
Calvin Ridley
Mike McGlinchey
Harold Landry
Leighton Vander Esch
Lamar Jackson

Certainly there are players outside the list that the Ravens value more, but this represents the consensus sweet spot. It is generally projected that if Ridley isn't there for us, then its McGlinchey. While I've seen more mocks than not have Davenport going in the top 15, I'm shocked that, of the ones that do have him falling out of the top 15, none of them have us taking him. While the FO has proclaimed offense, offense, offense, they may not be able to pass on him.

If we really want to take QB this year, I'd go M. Rudolph.

Leighton Vander-Esch? I don’t have him in the top 40 on my board let alone top 16

I’ve also got Landry around 25 and Vea just ahead of him (haven’t got my board to hand)

Jackson at 22 I can see

But the reason I think Ridley and mcglinchey keep getting mocked to us is because they make a lot of sense both in terms of value and the likelihood of teams picking them ahead of us

Davenport would be a good pickup though

I’m surprised Isaiah Wynn isn’t thought of in the top 16 at all tbh

It makes sense that is why Ridley and McGlinchey are getting mocked, as that's pretty much the way this consensus think works. when it comes to mocks.

Wynn and Hernandez were both very close to the grouping I gave ... and since many see us going OL, they both have a good shot at being our pick. Outside of a couple instance, I haven't seen either of them picked higher than 18.

I mention Vander-Esch because he is getting mocked very consistently in the 1st round.

That would mean 4 LBs go in first. Not very likely.

Every respectable draftnik I’ve come across has him as the 4th lb and any that mock him in the first seem to have him towards the end of the first - I’ve also seen guys a lot less into him - I just don’t see any way he’s gonna be top of the board or even close to it when we pick

If we really want to take QB this year, I'd go M. Rudolph.
Don’t see our scheme benefitting him at all. He’s a talented deep ball and 15-20 yard out thrower. The dink and dunk game isn’t his strong suit; he’s really inaccurate underneath. Our pick at 16 should be between Maurice Hurst and Harold Landry I don’t think there is any other player on offense or defense that have their type of talent. If we really do draft BPA one of them should be a raven.

This is just flat out ridiculous. He’s a talented thrower so don’t pick him because our QB last year threw short passes. Come on dude.

And Landry? We have Tim Williams, we don’t need another pass rush specialist who can’t play on 1st and 2nd down. Not in the 1st round at least. I’d rather take Davenport.

I don't understand what were you trying to say regarding Rudolph.

As for Landry and Hurst, they aren't even the best prospects in their respective positions.

I’m saying our offensive scheme isn’t going to help Rudolph. He’s a bad fit for us. Hurst is easily the best DT in this class and maybe the past few years. You can maybe make a case for Vea but he’s a nosetackle. As for Landry he’s a better pass rusher than Chubb. Chubb is the better run defender.

You do not select a QB based on your current scheme. You tailor your offense to QB's strengths. Hopefully, after next year our schemes are gone with Marty and Harbaugh out of here.

Payne is the best overall DT in this year's draft. I like both Chubb and Davenport better than Landry.

I agree with you on everything except your Bama bias with Payne haha. Vea has a higher ceiling imo.

With our current staff he’s not a fit. If we take Rudolph it basically says Marty is gone maybe Harbaugh as well. He’s an old school NFL QB inaccurate underneath but has the accuracy deep. The NFL has gone to more dink and dunk high percentage passes. I don’t know why he would want a guy whose skill set is outdated for today’s NFL. Don’t like Chubb as a pass rusher he’s going to struggle with in the pros because of the way he wins. Davenport is really raw but I can see him being the best when it’s all said and done. As of right now Landry is the best pass rusher on the edge. His 2016 tape makes Chubb look like an amateur. I don’t see why Payne is so highly though of Hurst was far and away the best DT in college this past season. I don’t see why the mock draft world isn’t high on him.

Especially when said scheme is a sack of shit

I have Landry and hurst outside the top 16 but hurst I only have 1 spot behind Daron Payne at 17 - Payne’s a beast but hurst is electric in his passing game potential - I wouldn’t mind either of them although I’d still be pissed that we spent our first round pick on a defensive tackle
