Is it the best time to buy? COVID caused a decline in the salary cap and world health experts predict we won’t be back to normal until spring 2022. Vaccine roll out has been plagued with issues both state and federally, so a delay in that normality would not be surprising. Next year the cap lowers again. Lamar plays on a 21 million 5th year option and we negotiate a contract based on current market value at the time.

it's possible the cap lowers - it's also possible it goes up as a bunch of new stuff comes into play - with the 17th regular season game the players got an extra .5% of the NFL revenue, the NFL will probably have a better idea on how they can recoup the losses from ticket sales this year too

while it's possible the cap goes lower i think there's a fairly decent chance it at least stays flat with whatever we get this year

You’re an absolute fool if you pay him this off-season when there are still years (yes, YEARS) still remaining on his contract. He needs to show he can get it done in the playoffs. His playoff stats, even in his win against TN, are abysmal. Defenses keep adjusting, he starts losing even an ounce or two of athleticism, and he doesn’t improve quite a bit in his passing and you’re staring right at Cam Newton performance

Or you get him early on ideally a more team friendly deal that can set us up to be competitive in the future. Waiting for him to get better will only cost us more.

I think Lamar’s upside at this point in his career is better than Joe’s was when he signed his big contract .

Wasn’t Joe even pretty bad in the playoffs until 2011 when Cundiff shanked it?

Reed called him out for the Texans game but I thought he played decent. Texans defense was a tough unit at that point and don't remember him really making any big mistakes. Followed that up with a good performance against the Pats. The 11-12 post season was where he really started earning that playoff rep but had a good game against the chiefs year prior.

I can’t remember, what did Reed say? Hahaha. And I always remember him being average in the playoffs until he turned on Montana-mode/January Joe. Really hoping we see this from Lamar

Yeah terrible but played really well in the Cundiff game

He did have his typical awful Flacco interception in the 4th Qtr. Threw a dime right to the line backer he didn’t see. Spikes I think it was

It kills me when people act like Joe was always great in the playoffs. Dude was very average in his first few years until he finally blossomed into the Elite Playoff Dragon that should have won multiple SBs. Lamar has honestly shown more in the playoffs than Joe did at the start of his career so hopefully it starts to translate to more playoff victories and, eventually, at least one championship.

i mean is there any chance someone else is running that page given it's his business page???
otherwise that's the most obvious dissent we've seen from him...
Other from his mom, I can't think of anyone else but it's definitely possible. Even if it is someone else which likely is the case, I just don't see how Lamar would be unaware of this.

Roman is as good as gone! I’m worried about the stunted off season but still pumped to see Lamar’s true potential in another offense

I love Lamar but I would trade him for Deshaun Watson.

If I were to start a franchize from scratch my board would go 1 Mahomes, 2 Watson and 3 Lamar.

I’d give Watson the SLIGHT edge over Lamar as an over all QB. However, there’s no way that trade can happen. We’d have to give a number one pick, absorb Watson’ massive contract, and trade one of the most liked guys on the team.

I’m just excited to see if Roman goes with players and pundits alike calling him out. Let Lamar shine in a real offense

No chance I would trade Lamar for Watson. Watson has gotten as good as he's going to get. I don't feel Lamar is close to his full potential.

it's all about how you structure the contract. look at Mahomes salary structure. He counted signed the contract last offseason and still counted 5m against the cap. He counts 24m against the cap in 2021 and in 2022 it's 31m. It's not until 23 where he starts to count over 40m against the cap.

Signing Lamar would be an extension to his current salary, where the first two years would be reasonably low due to him still being on his rookie contract.

In this "scenario" it would only take Lamar, the Texans are under pressure and have reduced leverage because its a forced trade, but I think they would jump at a chance at replacing him with similar value over a draft haul and having no QB.
