    The Random Thought Thread

I don't get why they'd want him out of the Texans game. To rob him of the satisfaction of crushing them? To keep him geographically away from his accusers in Houston? To avoid the allegations being the narrative for that entire week? (which it will be either way)

    The Random Thought Thread

I think that people are forgetting that this isn't like Brady/Elliott. Nobody is actually asserting that Watson is "innocent" or that the process itself was "unfair" - just that the unprecedented suspension shouldn't be longer than every other suspension for horrible things players have done...

I'd agree with that. Professional athletes inherently have a large, vocal portion of the public that automatically hates them and thinks they're irredeemably evil or automatically thinks they do no wrong. Combine that with the NFL's broad and vague professional conduct policy and you have the...

    The Random Thought Thread

It seems like most people expect the NFL to appeal the decision. It would just look bad for them to do it after going through an independent investigation and hiring Robinson anyway. It's worth noting, however, that Robinson's decision was not focused on Watson's conduct (she didn't dispute the...

    Lamar Jackson

QBs used to take these kinds of financial risks after "down" years all the time and nobody really cared until it was Lamar doing it without an agent. There's always a risk that a player will get injured on a tag or one year deal, but Lamar is a 25 year old MVP QB, not a guy at risk of being out...

I think the FO has leverage, but have their hands tied because they won't/shouldn't piss off Lamar. Lamar has "I made this team championship caliber and keep this team relevant any time I'm on the field" leverage, as well as "I know you need more cap flexibility" leverage. EDC hasn't been afraid...

    Lamar Jackson

I've been wondering if he's being hurt by his inability to inquire about his value with other teams without tampering. I know agents can't technically either, but I think it's naive to think they don't have off the record conversations with other teams' FOs. I'd assume that that's how the value...

Yeah. Watson was a weird situation. There's always going to be a difference between negotiating an extension and having three desperate teams bid for you. Hopefully Lamar's situation remains in the former.

That was my thinking. Also doesn't help Lamar that the next 2 big QB contracts coming up (Herbert, Burrow) are both are in franchises (like Arizona) with less fluid cash to give out massive guarantees.

Does this actually help Lamar? I assume that he was looking at an AAV in the range of 47-49 anyway because of the Watson contract. Kyler's contract not being fully guaranteed probably lowers the likelihood that Lamar's will be.

    The 2022 Offseason Thread

Have to think the Browns would just want it wrapped up though. Elliott got a couple injunctions and the process got dragged out because it had jurisdiction issues, but he just got suspended weeks 9-14 instead of weeks 1-6. If Watson's looking at a 12+ game suspension, you'd think they wouldn't...

I guess he is expecting a longer suspension if that's what the message he is leaking.

It's just the Derek Carr thing that got me. If Derek Carr were actually the 7th best QB in the NFL, it'd be such a boring league to watch.

Among other things, Bernard Pollard apparently thinks Derek Carr is the 7th best QB in the NFL

If they're factoring ST into their 53 man roster construction, I could see them keep Justice Hill as a 5th RB over a 5th WR. He's been a solid ST player who has gotten a lot of reps and is less likely to get to the practice squad than whoever the 5th best WR on the roster is.

I'm not convinced they have 4 RBs for Week 1. I wouldn't be surprised to see Dobbins and/or Edwards start the season on PUP.
