The Andrews, the Defense, and the Blocking

I think the ravens need a safety they can trust to give Kyle Hamilton more freedom to do what he does best. Seems like the secondary is playing passive to possibly protect Malaki Starks and to likely mask the lack of consistent pass rush. I also suggested CJ Gardner Johnson cause he likely could add more attitude to the defense but I will admit I don't know a lot about his ability. Not sure if he can pay that Geno Stone role but maybe he could.
CJ is more of what used to be called a strong safety but that's probably Starks best role too. I thought Lowry looked promising in preseason but they seem reluctant to try him for some reason.

If Lowry played deeper and Starks closer to the the line, that could free up Hamilton too.

Really, I just think that any money we spend should be going towards big guys not more little ones.

At this point I don't think any defensive signing is going to help us. There is too much talent on the defense for it to be performing this poorly. Somehow Orr has managed to take chicken salad and turn it into chicken shit in two seasons. Until Orr is gone any money/picks spent on defense are a waste.
Now if EDC wants to throw a draft pick or two at a shitty team to steal some o-line help, that i fully support

Is this for real?

Completely unnaceptable and I predicted EXACTLY this in the game thread

He needs to fucking stop uploading videos on all platforms

F this dude. Think the whole flock is over him
Marvin is a good CB who just got beat by St. Brown who's one of the top WRs in the league. No shame in that.

But where there SHOULD be shame is that this punk ass video came out hours and hours AFTER he told the reporters that nobody fears this defense anymore like they used to. Well why do you think that is, sir? How can any of the offenses we go up against this season take this dude seriously?

Listening to the Harbaugh press conference after the loss, here's what I gathered from it:
1. Running game not good; specifically called this out as biggest problem.
2. Sounds like he is sorta blaming coaching for the loss
3. Pass rush not getting it done
4. Need to play the calls better on defense
5. Not as concerned about Lamar holding the ball to extend the play

No mention on OL, interestingly. From what he said and didn't say, I suspect they are blaming the coaching for the loss (not sure who though since he specifically said the coaches have to do a better job of playing those who are out there regarding the loss of Van Noy and Madubuike. I find that interesting as it's the slightest hint of displeasure from the defensive coaching staff I've heard him make.

No. He just doesn’t play special teams and won’t play any offensive snaps if he was active.
Well maybe we need to re-examine that. Henry is easy to stack the box and stop for better teams, but keep them off balanced with speed backs could help. We don’t want Lamar to have to be the guy running

If you're worried about who RB3 is, you're missing a fuck ton of much bigger problems

We’re not even getting any good runs out of Hill so far. Besides game 1 and one run this game the run game has been awful. Sure only 3 games. Obviously the problem is the line

I don’t know of all of the impact of putting Keaton at RB 2, but I sure would like to see it happen at some point. Hill can be very effective, but not consistently. We need a change of pace RB to take some of the load from Henry.

Hill averaged just about 3 carries a game last year. He’s on the field because of his pass protection and receiving ability. Henry is the ball carrier here, and they’re not going to take the opportunity away from either of those guys. Mitchell would be lucky to get an offensive snap if he were to be active. It’s just the nature of RB3 in this offense, not a reflection on him or anyone else that might be filling that role.

Maybe Hamilton needs to go back and Starks closer to the line. That worked last season.

What did he say in the video, I don’t really want to watch it?

The coaches know better than us but Mitchell was a secret weapon in 2023, so much so that many said if he wasn’t hurt we’d have won the Super Bowl. How does he go from that to not seeing the field, surely we can work him in, unless he’s truly lost that home run ability. He looked good in pre season

It's not really Mitchell specific though. It's Derrick Henry specific. RBs not named Henry took 72 carries in 2024 over the course of the season. If your name isn't Derrick Henry, you're an afterthought. Maybe the fumble rut starts to get them thinking, but I think we know this is an aberration until it isn't.

And for what it's worth, I do like Keaton. I'd like to see him get some carries, but I also understand why he isn't active at all. Doesn't do enough on ST to warrant dressing for a handful of offensive snaps at most.

That may be something we should look to change, especially in the games where we can't get Henry going. I personally feel like Henry is still visually the same RB he was last season. But last year, it was understandably difficult to take touches from an RB having a monster season, especially when he's known to wear down defenses down the stretch. Even then, Hill managed to amass 141 yards through the first 3 games. We've now had 2 out 3 slower games out of Henry, and Hill's sitting at 59, of which 37 came on a play against a preventative defense. And that's not entirely on Hill. The lanes just have not been there the last 2 weeks. That's where we could use a fast creator like Mitchell who has shown to be a microwave carrier that doesn't require 2-3 touches to get hot before he's going. We're wasting his skillset if he's not supplementing our lapses in these games. It'd be game specific, of course. But he needs to be out there as a legitimate rushing reserve when Henry's getting stopped. Otherwise, it's just Henry and essentially a 3rd down back, with no room for error.
