Next Up: @ Browns

Tez isnt the same type of wr as bateman.. i think we may target our tightends more and give dhop more snaps rather using tez similar to how we use bateman
I know with his speed he’s been characterized as mainly a deep threat, but I can see him as a possibility in the slot. He has reliable hands and is a hard worker.

I think it's really valuable we get Tex and Hopkins heavily involved in a game to prepare for any potential injuries like Zay last year. I want Lamar on schedule with both just in case we have to go an important game without the prime options.

Looking forward to seeing some of the udfas at corner. I know we're all scared cuz it's the browns, but this is Gabriel not Jameis from last year. He actually sucks.

yeah that's what I'm saying, this stretch vs Browns and jets is the perfect spot to get those key backups into the flow. You don't want them coming into a road playoff game without some full, competitive games under their belts.

I do wanna see more of him.. i feel like we dont utilize the deep ball as much as we should so with him and dhop getting more snaps, it should be interesting…

I think Tez is more than capable to fill Bateman’s role, Monk and Lamar just need to show some confidence in getting him the ball.

Walker and Bate are too different. Walkers potential or strengths are different

Can't utilize a deep ball when the O-line is getting mushed back

Certainly, as circumstances have been. Doesn’t mean that couldn’t change.

very different skillsets though
would be square peg, round hole

Bate is a guy who wins with change of direction and elite throttle-down lower body mechanics
Tez is a linear, vertical route-runner
DHop is a boundary X with a very vertical based route tree

idk that there's a replacement on the roster for Bate
closest mechanically is probably Tylan Wallace

but i think they'll adjust the usage of guys - probably more TEs as you say

where you align and how you're used are not the same thing

What we are doing is malpractice to peebles. So damn stupid. Snaps are so valuable for young rookies, he should completely be a situational pass rusher even if it's depth.

How do you get better at stopping the run... playing against the run. Is our plan to change out slim pass rushing stud project into a 340 point nose tackle and sap any ability to rush the passer so he can serve as a completely different player? So annoyed
So a couple things I'd say on this:
1. In terms of "improving in run defense", that's largely a May-August function. Real games, which come with real consequences, is a pretty terrible time to "learn how to do something". Are we willing to risk giving up more rushing, and potentially lose games, so Peebles can develop as a run defender? I think that's a tough sell. Young players need reps, but they earn those reps in practices, preseason, etc.
2. There's pretty much no scenario where you can activate him, play him as a situational pass rusher (maybe 10-15 snaps a game), and he NOT play special teams. Every depth player on the roster, accept for backup QB, who plays small snaps on their side of the ball, plays ST. So if Peebles is going to be active as a depth player, he's gotta contribute in the 3rd phase.

I struggle with finding the "name" he should be playing over. You could argue maybe Taven Bryan, but that's basically the list. He shouldn't be activated over any of the other Dlineman, and if you're activating him over a LB, WR, RB, etc., then he has to be able to do what those players did on ST. Needless to say, they're not the same body types.

This is why I don’t think the answer is getting these little used guys more involved. I think the answer is a game plan that is more suited to our offense, TEs and zay in the short game and running the ball

and are we going to pretend that Wallace isn't a sure handed tough SOB to take down?

Sounds like Marlon (already confirmed) and Bateman are leaning toward being out. Probably don't need a move at WR since you can just activate Tez, but you could need one of the PS CBs. We've gone with 4 before but a Wiggins, Awuzie, Tampa, and Martin foursome seems light.

With Higgins likely headed to IR, it could mean that they use a 2nd elevation on the best STer from the PS. That's seemingly Sanoussi Kane but they could also go Chandler Martin if they want someone a little beefier as a more direct replacement.

Speaking of which, @Simba , has Peebles fell into the doghouse or is this more of a numbers thing with our roster or whatever?

Peebles may need to bulk up some im guessing
He does and I understand them not wanting him against the run and @rmcjacket23 's point on the no special teams, but I think he's the perfect guy for games like the jets and browns where you get him valuable reps early and let him try the hand against the run if we're up big. I think this guy is a true stud and we need our young guns playing meaningful snaps earlier (doing great with MS, Mg, and teddy b) instead of waiting until their contract year to find out we have a ~5-7 sack potential Dt
