What we are doing is malpractice to peebles. So damn stupid. Snaps are so valuable for young rookies, he should completely be a situational pass rusher even if it's depth.
How do you get better at stopping the run... playing against the run. Is our plan to change out slim pass rushing stud project into a 340 point nose tackle and sap any ability to rush the passer so he can serve as a completely different player? So annoyed
So a couple things I'd say on this:
1. In terms of "improving in run defense", that's largely a May-August function. Real games, which come with real consequences, is a pretty terrible time to "learn how to do something". Are we willing to risk giving up more rushing, and potentially lose games, so Peebles can develop as a run defender? I think that's a tough sell. Young players need reps, but they earn those reps in practices, preseason, etc.
2. There's pretty much no scenario where you can activate him, play him as a situational pass rusher (maybe 10-15 snaps a game), and he NOT play special teams. Every depth player on the roster, accept for backup QB, who plays small snaps on their side of the ball, plays ST. So if Peebles is going to be active as a depth player, he's gotta contribute in the 3rd phase.
I struggle with finding the "name" he should be playing over. You could argue maybe Taven Bryan, but that's basically the list. He shouldn't be activated over any of the other Dlineman, and if you're activating him over a LB, WR, RB, etc., then he has to be able to do what those players did on ST. Needless to say, they're not the same body types.
