the rule about forwards/backwards passes when downfield in the nfl is stupid - if the ball leaves the hands backwards that should count as a lateral no matter where the ball actually travels - players travel forwards at speed - they'd have to toss the ball so hard backwards to make a legal lateral in nfl terms
rams player literally threw the ball directly behind him and it still travelled a yard forwards by the time it was caught...
the nfl rule is literally going against physics unless they dont want players to use the play
they should use the rugby rule - it should be a legal lateral (and not an illegal forward pass) if the ball initially leaves the hands going backwards no matter if it eventually travels forwards
