Coaching Carousel 2026

Not undermining his success but Sam Darnold played really good in 2024 in the same offensive system with the Vikings. It's nice that he was able to get his offense to be second in scoring but the Viking already shown the blueprint on how to use Sam Darnold. Only thing the Seahawks had to hope for was for Darnold to continue to play just as good if not better and likely not mess up in the playoffs. Klint Kubiak likely will bring good coaches with him but if it's only regarding the offensive side then is that really enough?
There's bound to be good defensive coordinators we can bring in, possibly some of the guys who are being interviewed for HC jobs. It's much more important to sort out offensive side to give the best chance to Lamar.

And I'm saying this with tears in my eyes watching defenses in these playoffs.

if i'm a dolphins fan, hiring hafley does not fill me with confidence that this was a thorough search

new GM just hired the guy he knew from before with a short process and a couple of sham rooney rule interviews
Which is exactly what Titans fans will feel when they eventually announce Matt Nagy as their Head Coach.

at least theyve interviewed a ton of candidates (17 when i last counted)
and nagy's said he wont call plays if he's ever a HC again so at least you can hire an OC
uninspiring but far more defensible than the dolphins process

Per my guy, Scheelhaase is the lucky benefactor of Stefanski accepting the Atlanta job. They'd like to get him in for a 2nd interview as well. Odds seem stacked against him since he was originally not part of the plan but they like him enough to keep him in the running.

My opinion: guessing he'll be the last they try to schedule. If someone else impresses before they get to him, I think they'd run without him.

so you think it might be:
Weaver
Minter
Kubiak
McDaniel
Scheelhaase

as our final 5?

Yeah feels like a white flag admittance that you're not a desired place to be.

Sounds like Webb is in there, too.

Webb
Weaver
Minter
Kubiak
Scheelhaase
McDaniel (I haven't heard he got a second interview or likely to get one yet)
That’s a sexy list. Surprised Saleh might not be a finalist

I feel like if we were really sold on Minter he would’ve been hired by now. If not McDaniel then I hope it’s Kubiak

Webb as well based on what I've heard.

Part of me wonders if Weaver is largely there to check the Rooney Rule box so they don't have to wait any longer should someone later this week impress and get the job.

Also haven't heard anything concrete on McDaniel.

Beane getting promoted and a lack of cap space would give me pause on Buffalo. Plus, with the AFC North turning over three coaches and the Bengals having an uninspiring coach, I think I'd still rate Baltimore as the top destination.

Not the run away, best available job they were before McDermott got fired, but I still think the best destination all things considered.

Not saying McDaniel is not going to get a 2nd interview, but all of the rumors seem to indicate he's probably going to end up as an OC somewhere.
This is why I'm not certain it matters which side of the ball we hire as HC. I just think we need to hire what we think is the best. I continue to err on OC as HC, because I think Kubiak - who's my final choice - as an OC as HC is the best decision. If they go with a DC as HC then McDaniel is ok in his capris as OC, but I'm skeptical. Kubiak and Weaver, I think are doable. That would be a good mix! But they have to be flexible and willing to change if what they do doesn't feel right after this year.
