The Good, The Better and The Best vs NE

Woah that's pretty crazy. He has really really locked down that position. So a couple of weeks ago it was him and Fort right? Fort had a couple nice games. I think Peanut may have replaced him this week?

Fort still got some snaps and almost picked off Brady IIRC (Edit: it was actually Bynes). Bynes and Fort just seem like really smart players who are usually in the right positions and they've made our defense a lot better since adding them.

Greg Roman was on fire this sunday night btw - some of the play designs are cool but how he manipulated personnel to get the patriots into certain personnel and then took advantage of it was shanahan-esque - lots of coordinators try and do that but the cohesion between the idea and the execution isnt there
Roman really was brilliant, it seems like he’s getting better and better as a play caller, a lot of fans of his previous teams had bad things to say about his situational play calling and over reliance on the run, but a lot of that could just be Kaepernick and tyrod, because he’s still relying on the run heavily but not to a fault, as a matter of fact the only time we’ve struggled is when he’s gotten too pass happy.

He seems to be finding a perfect balance now, I love how he treats a lot of third downs like second down, running on 3rd and whatever knowing that we’ll either convert or get it short enough to convert on fourth, and when he does treat a third down like a must have conversion, he dials it up beautifully, like the Hayden hurst drag early on, the andrews out route where he cleared enough space to turn upfield out of the bunch formation, the Boyle TD, etc.

He is really dialed in with what works with this personnel and it’s awesome to watch. Your shanahan comparison was spot on, he is using a well rounded squad, brute force, and confusion and movement to completely dictate the game with absolute authority. At this rate, I don’t see anyone stopping this unit, everything is firing right now, and it’s getting better every week.

with regards to the whole treating 3rd down like 2nd down thing that's a uniquely ravens situation - in most of those other places he's been in they've had conservative defensive teams where they truly are built around running the ball and playing defence in a pre-analytics era where they're happy to punt - we have one of the most aggressive analytically driven coaches in the league who's mostly happy to attack and go for it on 4th down which creates space for Roman to make those types of calls on 3rd down - if we get it great, if we dont get it and we get within 3-4 yards of converting then we're likely going for it unless we're inside our own 40 or situationally we need the fg

and i think its interesting that 2 of the best offences in the league have zagged - us and the 49ers are both teams that are happy to run on 3rd and 5 or even longer because of the matchups we get in that down and distance - using motion in the running game and creating space in the passing game using tight ends - 2 of the only teams that use a full back also - people have been quieter about san francisco's offensive evolution because its been happening over a couple of seasons but also because they dont have an athlete at qb but more teams are going to have to adjust to what's going on - defences are so small now that its getting to the point where we've gone big and so have the 49ers and teams cant cope with the power

efficient but unspectacular - most important play of the game is possibly the pass that went the furthest in the air though on 3rd and 5 to mark andrews - we played complementary football against the pats - they couldnt stop mark ingram so we kept going - literally used killed them with death by a thousand cuts - the way the pats normally dink and dunk their way down the field

We finally saw a weakness and exploited it and didn’t go away from it. What a concept.

that and the 4th and 4 to Snead were the most important in my opinion.

What I appreciated the most about our defense was holding them to 7 2nd-half points, but that was largely in turn due to our offense going on long, sustaining drives (my favorite kind of offense tbh).

im taking great pleasure looking at the team defensive stats around the league and after our game New England is no longer number 1 in lots of categories - it's only number 1 in turnovers and scoring now (but even that's taken a massive hit - was around 7.5 ppg before us and is now over 10 based of just the 1 game)

so satisfying lol

it's awesome, but they will have a chance to bring it back down when they play the remaining high school teams on their schedule.
