2026 Offseason Thread

Former Steelers players have also complained about Tomlin running guys too hard in practice, and they would comment that it led to losses due to fatigue, and harbaughs practices have often been regarded as the hardest in the league.

And if your team in constantly melting down in the fourth quarter, it’s not out of the question that they are just more fatigued than their opponents basically every week.

I’ll say that you definitely need a harsh break in period just to get game conditioned, but once you reach that point it should be dialed back and technique, chemistry, and playbook should be the emphasis, rather than continuing the conditioning, at that point you really are just wearing your body down. Proper recovery time really is key for both conditioning and avoiding soft tissue injury, when your muscles and joints are too fatigued you start subconsciously compensating and that’s when injuries happen, along with plain overworking a muscle that’s already in a state of recovery.

Sure it might sound soft but that’s just because it’s being said out loud when most players just stfu about it because they don’t wanna get called a pussy, doesn’t mean Zay isn’t at least partially correct

A simple question that could be asked in all this "Could Zay be right?"

Complaing about how practices are conducted now is crazy. What would they do pre 2011? If anything the CBA limitations placed on practices have added to in season injuries. Zay needs to pull up his skirt and stop crying.

I will say, the very same interview he said that Minter told him that he's going to get work but it's going to be easier on the body and how he'll be fresher for the game. If they do eventually get 18 games, coaches will have to figure out how to keep players fresh for the whole season plus the playoffs.

Dialing back the hitting during TC may have made things worse in regards to injuries, just because sloppiness is an issue basically all of September, but I don’t see how dialing back workloads mid-late season could contribute to more injuries in any way, it’s just not realistic that giving your body more opportunity to rest after the intense load that is an nfl game, would make you more likely to get injured, that train of thought doesn’t even make sense, like zero sense.

Were you ever a gym goer? Did you go daily and work the same muscle group every day? If you strained something at work did you go back the next day and push that strain on purpose? No because that would be fucking stupid and you’d just end up further injuring yourself, you’d try to avoid overuse to protect yourself. Why would it be any different for a peak athlete playing a sport that has the same impact on the body as a weekly car crash for 4 months straight?

From listening to that pod I know them boys are pissed about letting Likely walk and keeping Andrews.
Likely should have accepted the offer he had then, because he got a little less guaranteed but more in incentives compared to what the Ravens had on the table early. They made multiple attempts after he got healthy and Likely dug his feet in, so they moved on.

Consistency in training is what builds/maintains strength. I'm sure the guys that were nicked or that needed rest weren't pressed in season. And the practice limitations now pretty much keep things at a minimum anyway. Maybe next they will just want to stay home in between games and show up Sunday morning. lol

Honestly, sorry I even mentioned anything. Seems anything I say gets turned around into some sort of perceived support for Harbaugh, or a slight to Lamar.

Wait so they were basically playing full games during practices type shit? I figured they were just in pads all the time going full speed but not really hitting

I think if you're going to put this out publicly, you better be able to draw a reconciliation line back from 3 padded practices in a 6 week period to "excessively hard practices that cause injuries". Brutal sales pitch.

I can guarantee the overwhelming majority of NFL fans assumed that they're in full pads, hitting, Wednesday-Friday during the season.

There's plenty of medical literature out there showing that the league is essentially using the first few games of the year as the "break in" period, because the offseason programs have gotten so light that these guys aren't getting hit and ramping their bodies into game form until September. Which yields a lot of soft-tissue injuries earlier in the year.
