General Draft Thoughts

I've seen a mock where we trade up for Chaisson. That's an interesting thought. If there is a position we'd love to fill for both immediate impact and for future use, it is an EDGE guy. From what I've heard, this is a draft with depth, but only at certain positions. After you get past the first few edge guys, it "falls off a cliff" (I think those were McShay's words).

If we don't sign Judon long term, I don't think we're going to want to try to work a deal with him, when we'll also have Stanley to deal with and possibly Marlon. We'd love to have a cheap option off the edge and let Judon walk after this season.

What do you guys think of that move?

I think what is being said here is that if you are going to value an ILB as a 1st round talent, he damn well better be a stud ... a 3 down guy who can shed blocks, cover and be a leader on D. Is there such a guy in this draft? Maybe that's Queen but we may not view him as that either.

Given the investments we've made at DE and in apparently holding on to Judon, that's why I said that we are unlikely IMO to draft ILB in the first round. Maybe if Queen falls to us but I don't see us going out of our way to make that pick. I also don't think we're going to go with Murray despite the majority of mocks I'm seeing who are forcing that guy to us based on need.

I think we're far more likely to fill that position in with a lower end pick and probably a low profile guy or two off the cut list (much like we did in 2019).

or even someone like Otaro Alaka

i would agree with mchsay about edge falling off a cliff - there are 3 guys id think of as premier prospects - Chase Young, K'Lavon Chaisson and AJ Epenesa

and after that a massive drop (for me that drop is over 25 spots on my big board) before you get to the next EDGE guys - that tier is full of interesting but flawed players who may not be scheme fits everywhere - Greenard is my favourite for the ravens in this tier but it probably also includes Yetur Gross-Matos, Terrell Lewis and then for some teams it might include Bradlee Anae or Julian Okwara or Curtis Weaver (but i dont agree with those 3 in that tier)

so yeah as a position group it's not great in this class

but you're also right that the draft in general is deep with talent - just at other positions - we will be getting day 2 graded players in the 4th and maybe 5th round this year

OL fixed. Added a stud multi-position starting DL to really ramp up our pass rush. Starting Mike LB. slot wr excelling in quick separation. High ceiling TE midway through day 3. An answer to the travesty that is justice hill. A big bodied wr with potentially the best hands in the draft. And frankly from what little I’ve seen, tuszkas ceiling is high enough to say 7th round is a steal.

one of my favorite mocks we’ve done because the trenches and ILB are all set after this.

True linebackers are still regarded as an integral part of a defense and wear the green dot aka qbs on defense. That's why I think they receive a premium.
this is true, but in Baltimore the position is devalued even more with Clark wearing the green dot and dropping down to linebacker. We play two ilb less than any other team in the league.

would love this - dont love KJ Hill in the 3rd round - feel like there'll be a more dynamic option at the position available but ultimately if this is the way the draft goes and Hodgins comes in in the 5th then id be satisfied enough

+ okwuegbunam is potentially a major weapon who you can use in all sorts of ways

EDC conference call streaming now - i missed the start so will go back to watch when it's finished so i can start from the beginning

but looks like the ravens have 185 draftable players on their board - ive got 216 right now but im assuming some of that is medical stuff/combine interview stuff/off-field red flag stuff that contributes to at least some of that

it looks like some of the disparity is coming at WR - EDC apparently says the ravens have 25 draftable WRs - i have more than that

will wait for context later when i can watch the whole thing but this quote is the most comforting thing to come out of the pre-draft presser so far:

The quality of the stream doesn't look promising. I hope they can sort it out come draft night.

that's not a professional stream though - just a video capture of a zoom call - anything that happens on draft night will be using high-end tv quality kit that can transmit signals better - as long as they can get the right kit to the right places and set up correctly then the coverage will be fine

because this is not about high production value im pretty sure this is just a capture of the conference call but not worried about the draft yet - the only problem might be communication among team staff on draft night

Could also mean the opposite. Misdirection......what also starts with M? Murray, Kenneth. Yeah yeah, go ahead and dislike, I get it.

Question is - are 2 GMs lying or Jeremiah on behalf of the other 2?

i dont think DJ would lie for other GMs - doesnt help him in any way but could definitely see GMs wanting to put that out there

although it is interesting that 2 separate GMs said the same thing in the space of 24 hours - so maybe DJ is making it up - but then WHY?????

maybe it's true lol and GMs really think that Isaiah Wilson is going in the top 32 picks... tbf its perfectly possible that 6 tackles go in the 1st round - why not 7th (or why not some teams liking him more than Josh Jones and/or Austin Jackson)

but would be surprising to me - i think he's a top 50 type prospect but 1st round is way too high for me

I mean the Steelers drafted Edmunds in the 1st a couple of years ago. There will always be weird picks especially in the 25th-32nd range. Rashard Penny, mcGary, deandre Baker.
