Around the NFL: News and Rumors

I'd imagine you'd see Watt over the middle and Mercilus off the edge, but moot point.

It's a very scary defense when you factor in how good Clowney is becoming. Yeah, he didn't put up numbers like a Mack or a Miller, but he played just as well, if not better, than both. Clowney is becoming exactly who he was drafted to be now that injuries are behind him. The arrow is only pointing up. And with Watt and Mercilus there to draw attention? That's scary.

I keep hearing good things about Deshaun Watson, if he beats out Tom Savage then the Texans have a legit QB for the first time. They can go far with Watson as the starter and I'll probably change my Titans winning the AFC South pick if Watson starts for Houston.

Speaking of rookies, the Seahawks have lost rookie DT Malik McDowell to a offseason ATV crash. He suffered a concussion and some facial injuries due to the crash.

Watson has a ton of flaws in his game and I like him a lot too. I hope he does good, but I don't see him having an amazing rookie year at all.

I think the Texans can be what the Seahawks were a couple years ago and when you look at it. Wilson came in a rookie, they had Lynch, a great defense and all Wilson had to do was be a game manager. I think Watson is in a very similar situation in Houston, Lamar Miller can be the guy at RB to take pressure off Wilson, and they have the defense that can be as good as the Seahawks defense was.

It's the idea that you only need one cog in the offensive line to fail to make a positive impact and then focusing on making one cog fail on each snap - I reckon the Texans will use this alignment with different personnel 2-3 times in each game
Oh man, I can't imagine just 2-3. If it works, you don't stop until they can match it. They're going to hammer that one home... and they have no reason not to.

Well if they do it all the time then quick screens or checking into run plays and pitching it will combat it - it works incredibly well when they don't always show that alignment or they don't rush 5 from it then it becomes more impactful - the good thing about it is they can drop any player into coverage and suddenly it becomes less predictable

Steelers CB Senquez Golson was carted off the field with an apparent hamstring issue. Three years in a row he has suffered camp injuries. He has yet to play a game for Pittsburgh.

Damn that John Harbaugh.

He is so bad he is hurting players on other teams now !!!!!!!!!!!!!! [/sarcasm]

It's so bad that now Browns S Ed Reynolds left the field with a significant knee injury but Hue Jackson did confirm it is not a torn ACL. Bengals better look out, now Harbaugh is injuring division rivals. [/sarcasm]

Seriously though, this is the one part of training camp/preseason that sucks.

I would imagine they'll show it quite often and just mix it up on every play. Like I said, no reason not to until a team can show they can actually beat it and considering how strong of run defenders Watt and Clowney are (they might be the two best edge defenders in the NFL), I don't think runs will actually haunt them too much.

Not sure how long he will be out. Nothing is confirmed on injuries yet. McDowell says it's not career threatening

If your a first year HC, the one thing you shouldn't do is alienate your veteran players. According to Alex Marvez of the Sporting News, Chargers HC Anthony Lynn has told Philip Rivers and Antonio Gates that they need to attend practice on Sunday rather than be in Canton for former teammate LaDainian Tomlinson's HOF induction. Gates being the rebel that he is, is going to Canton anyway no matter what Lynn says.

Colts are going to be on a rough start to the season. Jason LaCanfora says its possible Andrew Luck coukd start the year on PUP which would cost him 6 games. So the Colts are out of the running in the AFC South if that's the case.

The Ravens have it rough with injuries, but no one has it Dominique Easley rough because he tore his ACL... again... for at least the third time...

Dudes got knees of jello. So talented, but so injury prone.

John Harbaugh is really getting around.
