Around the NFL: News and Rumors

bills 2018 draft: 2 1st round picks (their own and the chiefs), 2 2nd round picks (their own and the rams), 2 3rd round picks (their own and the eagles), only the browns will have better picks in the 2018 draft with 2 1s, 3 2s and a 3 - between these two teams and the jets essentially tanking i think we're looking at sam darnold, josh rosen and josh allen's destinations

another thing to think about... with the bills and jets essentially giving up on 2017 and the dolphins losing their qb - i think the pats are well on their way to 16-0 already and easing through the afc east yet again

When that pick went down my first thought was, do you think you are Al Davis or something. Aguayo isnt Sebastian Janikowski and even if he is, he will be available later.
Well, kickers that are near automatic are generally taken early and Janikowski actually had a worse rookie season than Aguyo.

Ironically, both went to FSU.

Wasn't Aguayo close to terrible from 40+ at FSU? I never really took notice but I've seen a ton of people mention it.

I saw the Steelers are attempting to trade for Truamine Johnson from the Rams... That scares me that guy is a very good player. I hope that trade doesn't happen. At the same time does it show the Steelers are concerned about their corners?

They'd have to give up a pretty good bit to get him. I'd imagine the Rams are in no big hurry to trade him after the EJ Gaines trade.

the rams could do with some serious draft picks though
But the question becomes, do the Steelers have 1) the cap room to accommodate his franchise tag because he HAS to play under it this year and 2) do they want to give up as much as they'd need to for a one year rental?

The answer to one is overwhelmingly no at this point. I think the Steelers are at $12M before all 53, IR players, and PS counts, so they'd be around $7M after all that and Johnson counts over $16M against the cap, so good luck clearing $9M for him alone. The answer to two, probably not. Why give up a high draft pick if he might leave after the season? I know some will point to Sammy Watkins as an example, but the Rams can still sign him during the season if they so please. The Steelers cannot.

yeah my point was more that the rams would do it if the steelers (or anyone) offered them decent picks not that it would actually happened

i also wonder if the trade would be able to happen given that lev bell is already under the franchise tag - the steelers would have 2 franchise tagged players... is that legal?

To the second question, I'd imagine yes since they didn't actually tag him.

If I'm the Rams, I'd only trade him if he showed no interest in re-signing. I think he'd like to re-sign in LA if the money were right, but I do agree with the Rams in waiting because he looked markedly worse in a scheme that didn't feature him pressing often.

i also think that the gm is gone next offseason if the rams dont win 7 games and he's someone who has tried to self-legitimise his own draft picks by giving them contracts that they tbh didnt deserve... see trumaine and tavon austin - the rams are square in a rebuild so getting picks for overpriced players would be a big boon given that they missed out almost entirely on the most recent draft because of the ransom they paid for goff

Les Snead is certainly not someone to go through a rebuild with. Aren't the rams in a perennial rebuild?

Panthers extend LB Thomas Davis with a one year $6.75M extension.

Seems the Panthers are locking up guys who wouldn't have gotten extended under Gettleman.
