Around the NFL: News and Rumors

The NFL wants the whole anthem thing to go away but it seems like these new rules are having the opposite effect. Hard to call that effective

Le'Veon Bell is apparently asking for $17M a year from the Steelers. Good luck with that one.

Unless he’s going to be a RB and their QB of the future that ain’t happening.
I'm proud of Le'Veon tbh. Under no circumstance should he sell himself short. If the market says he's worth $17M, then dammit he's worth it and then some. If the Steelers aren't willing to give him that doe, then to hell with them. #ImwithBell

To be fair, they offered $12M a year last year and he turned it down. I suspect some dumb team will give him that $17M a year and kill their cap on a running back.

there's so much cap space at some organisations that 17m a year on a 2 year deal (to get to the next CBA) is likely doable for a talent that big - bell will know he's not getting 17/yr for more than 2-3 years but you'd have to think he'd take a 2 year deal that gave him 17/yr short term and also lets him be a free agent for the new CBA

because those things already happen and are roundly ignored by national media - you can disagree all you want with the platform but to say that the players are unjustified in using their platform when it has literally opened a national discussion (probably international) about racism and police violence is ludicrous

it was quite clearly an effective protest

and the subsequent protests werent about police violence anyway - nor were they about the anthem - they were about the rights of the players to be autonomous and be allowed to demonstrate and not be victimised for demonstrating - it was about solidarity against criticism from the POTUS...

let's not forget that whole teams only started kneeling after Trump went after the players...

and the fact that the NFL just put in place a rule and the fact that we are still talking about this completely legitimises the players' reasoning for protesting the anthem - because it gets people talking
People were talking before as racism and police brutality were hardly hidden or ignored issues in the US. Maybe you don’t recognize this because you don’t live here. And the protest did nothing positive to widen those discussions nor did it help in moving towards a solution which should be the intent.

As mentioned before, it’s time for positive actions from everyone to help effect change not misguided protests that have only served to create more issues.

PFT had a report that some star players are considering sitting out until Kaep and Eric Reid are and the quote from the article... "given roster spots".

Um.... So these same players who know that every day, year by year, they are fighting for their spot on the roster. Yet this report says 2 players must be given a spot instead of earning it? Their political stsnce aside, Kaep and Reid still have to earn a spot on a 53 man roster.

Everybody has there opinion on the issue but I can't really agree that the protest did nothing positive . If you only going by the news then that's wrong way to go. The news doesn't really focus on alot positivity but when I see players like Malcolm Jenkins, Anquan Boldin, Colin Kapernick, and more using their platform (some were protestors) to speak with officers or those higher up about issues concerning people police brutality and more then I think that's positive movement. Never underrate awareness even if the issue has been around for quite along time.We live in mirowave area where alot of people like quick fixes and changes but we all know things gets well done in the oven which takes time but within that time it doesn't mean nothing is getting done and change is not happening. Just because change has not reach the level that you may have expected doesn't mean the protest was misguided.

I live on the west side of Baltimore and my neighborhood is within the Sand town community. I believe it was two years ago when Baltimore City it self was dealing with a news worthy issue concerning police brutality . I'm sure people were saying the peaceful protest and riots during that time was misguided as well but guess what there's now a Boys and Girls club in The Gilmore Projects area(not far from where I stay) which is something that's been needed for over 10 years and there have been more programs cater to our youth to help them get jobs and etc. I have personally attended community meetings and participated in events to here and see for myself what the protest and riots have motivated our city to do financially wise to help citizens within The Baltimore City Community. I'm not advocating violence at all since that's what the riots included at times but I can't ignore that it didn't possibly play part in the progess that I have seen along with the peaceful protest. There's still work that' needs to be done and these changes didn't happen right away but I know for a fact that some stuff people been protesting/fighting for don't get answer right away and some of time people have to wait years and years for it to happen.

Seahawks have signed WR Brandon Marshall to a one year contract worth up to $2M based on incentives. Now how bad is Dez if the Seahawks are willing to pass on him for Marshall. Let alone signing Marshall over Maclin, or Decker.

Dez is asking 1 year deal for too much money.

BB during the Super Bowl: Anyone see Malcolm Butler? No, ok he's not in the starting line up today.

Former Steelers and Bears OT Mike Adams is making a comeback in the NFL.... as a Tight End. Adams has shed 68 pounds, from 323 lbs to 255 lbs in order to transition to Tight End. Dude is ripped in the picture below. Maybe we should re-sign Crockett Gillmore and sign Adams, that way Adams can teach Gillmore how to be a Tackle, and Gillmore can show him how to be a Tight End.

Jets fourth-round TE Chris Herndon was arrested for DUI just before dawn on Saturday after causing a major accident in New Jersey.

Herndon's Nissan Armada totaled a Toyota Land Cruiser and demolished a railroad motor car and its attached trailer. A 76-year-old man was driving the Land Cruiser and suffered a gashed arm. It's unknown whether Herndon was injured, but he was arrested for DUI at the scene and is now subject to league discipline.

Sad news... 49ers legend Dwight Clark has passed away at the age of 61 after his battle with ALS. Clark was the reciever known for "The Catch". For those unfamilar, this unlikely play came about in the final minute of the 1981 NFC Championship Game. Montana lobbed the ball to the back of the end zone, Clark leaped in the air and brought down the ball for a49ers win.
