Around the NFL: News and Rumors

Bengals would like to hire Rams’ QB coach Zac Taylor after Los Angeles’ season ends, league sources tell @mortreport and me. It looks like it is Taylor’s job to lose. He is the preferred choice.

tbf who was it who said anyone who has a 5 minute conversation with mcvay on an airplane would be instantly qualified to be an nfl head coach?

Sources: #Jaguars star RB Leonard Fournette met executive VP Tom Coughlin and the rest of the team’s brass to clear the air and move forward together for 2019, sources say. Sounds like it went well for both sides and things are headed in the right direction.

At this point, I think when we play the Rams next year it will qualify anyone on the Ravens for a Head Coaching Job in 2020. "We were in the same stadium as McVay, hire us as your head coach".

A bit more on the soap opera status:

Antonio Brown ignoring Tomlin, owner Rooney

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports the Steelers have not spoken with Antonio Brown since he was deactivated for the team's Week 17 game against the Bengals.

Per reporter Gerry Dulac, Brown has "refused to return repeated phone calls" from owner Art Rooney II and coach Mike Tomlin. He skipped the team's final meetings. "Whether the situation can be reconciled and have him back on the team next year, we’re a long way away from thinking that can happen," Rooney said, expanding on his comments that it was difficult to envision Brown with the team in 2019. "We’re not closing the door on anything at this point." Rooney said the massive $21.2 million cap hit the Steelers would take by trading Brown will not factor into their decision. Rooney sounds 100 percent ready to move on.

Baby TO in the making. He's going to bounce around team to team and wear out his welcome.

The NFL apparently is talking about the potential of moving the AFC Title Game to the LA Coliseum if the Chargers were to host the AFC Title Game. In fact, if the Rams were to host the NFC Title Game, the NFL would consider having the Championship Games played on a Sunday Night followed by a Monday Night Game at the Coliseum

Sources said that last month there were internal discussions about possibly playing Sunday night and Monday night championship games in the event both the Rams and Chargers hosted conference-title games, with both games being played at the Rams' Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. It was not considered feasible for the L.A. Coliseum to host both championship games on the same Sunday – in double-header fashion – I'm told, but moving the AFC Championship Game out of 30,000-seat Dignity Health Sports Park is something many within the NFL offices would support. And, given the way the playoffs have sorted out to this point, it remains possible that L.A. teams host both championship games.

AFC East is definitely incestuous. Can't they find coaches elsewhere?

Report: Fins targeting Flores for head coach
13050.jpg

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Patriots DC Brian Flores has emerged as the favorite for the Dolphins' head-coaching job.

Obviously the Dolphins can't hire Flores until the Patriots wrap up their season, but it looks like he's in line to replace Adam Gase as Miami's next coach. Saints DC Dennis Allen, Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy, Dolphins OC Dowell Loggains, Cowboys DBs coach/pass-game coordinator Kris Richard and Dolphins special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi also interviewed for the team's head-coaching vacancy. A former linebacker at Boston College, Flores has worked for the Patriots in some capacity since 2004. He only has one year of coordinating experience on his resume, though the 37-year-old is thought of as an up-and-comer and should help to shore up what was one of the league's worst defenses in 2018.
