Around the NFL: News and Rumors

49ers and Jimmy G are moving closer to a long term contract according to PFT. Curious to see if he lands a deal at, below or above $23M per year.

they would franchise tag him if he doesnt sign a deal which likely means the deal has to be around the franchise tag which i think is gonna be around $25 mill or so fully guaranteed this year because of the massive contracts from last year... i imagine the yearly average could be less than that if there is a tonne of guaranteed money and a massive signing bonus but for the most part i imagine 25 mill was the starting point...

If I am Jimmy G I make them franchise me and see what happens with Cousins. The moment that deal happens the entire market is reset. The same with Rodgers and Ryan, I do not sign until he does.

That would be the smart thing to do unless the 49ers pay him like $130M or $135M and over pay now for future production later. Jimmy G is undefeated as a starter and he made them winners from the beginning so he has a lot of leverage. Like you said the market is about to reset with Kirk, Matt Ryan and Aaron Rodgers and even Drew Brees all needing new contracts.

It's just so scary to think about with these young quarterbacks coming in and what the really good ones(Wentz, Watson, Dak, etc) will average annually.

I’d take less per yr for the security of a longer contract with good guarantees

The Cleveland Browns are bringing in former Redskins GM Scot McCloughlin as a consultant for this year's draft. I've mentioned before how Browns GM John Dorsey has fell in love with Baker Mayfield, and McCloughlin said in October that he felt Mayfield was the best QB in the draft, going as far as saying he's a shorter Brett Favre.

"He reminds me of a shorter version of Brett Favre," McCloughan said. "Tough guy. He can throw it. And he's very confident, and he's not afraid whatsoever, whatsoever. He's a battler. I know saying Brett Favre's a big name, and I was around him for a while, but this guy (Mayfield) has talent." Per the Cleveland Plain Dealer, "word circulated at the Senior Bowl last month" that McCloughan was "talking up Mayfield" to new Browns GM John Dorsey.

Eagles Home Opponents in 2018: Giants, Redskins, Cowboys, Vikings, Panthers, Falcons, Texans, Colts

Something tells me we'll get a playoff rematch to start the season on Sept 6th, 2018. Whether it's the Vikings or Falcons otherwise no other game looks appealing even within the division.

The Josh McDaniels pull out sofa, now coming to a store near you.

Did he just Belichick them the way Bill did to the Jets? Belichick must have told the team 2018 will be his last year and McDaniels is the successor in 2019. Only way to explain this.
