Signings, Cuts, Trades

Broncos reportedly don't want to trade Surtain at all, so these conversations are likely moot. Yeah they're likely going to be a team going through a rebuild but there's no value in them trading away a young asset like they unless they get an absolute haul.

the one thing i'm surprised about is we are running more gap scheme this year than last year. I thought for sure that we would have more zbs.

I think running back coach Willie Taggart may have some influence with the run blocking scheme. His Golf Coast offense typically use the gap scheme
Do we really need a RB that bad ? Idk I'm cool with what we have

I think it really depends on how the team feels about Justice Hill and Keaton Mitchell. If the team is really concerned about Hills fumbles and Mitchell injury then it possible they could be thinking about adding another running back. I don't know if it's majorly needed but I can understand if the team wants more of dynamic back. I like Commanders running back Antonio Gibson potential in this offense

I think it's the position that could arguably help us the most right now. Think both Gus and Hill are best as complementary pieces, and Gus in particular is being used more than the team would like.

Obviously there are some OL considerations as well, but the Gus that used to run through arm tackles is now being taken down in the backfield quite regularly. Hill has stepped up his game but still not sure there's anything more than a rotational change of pace there. There's definitely room for someone more dynamic with a better all-around game.

With Oline, I'm not sure I see a "starter-level" upgrade available without an injury. Like I don't see us getting a Tackle that plays over Stanley or Moses (nor do I think we'd want to replace either), and I'm just not sure about Guards being available to upgrade over Simpson.

I think Oline help would be via depth trades, or if one of like Stanley, Zeitler, or Linderbaum suffers a long term injury. And again, quality Olineman are needed by all 32 NFL teams all the time, regardless of whether they're rebuilding or not.

RB makes sense. Edge rusher makes sense. Corner maybe makes sense. Those are the three positions where I think we have the "weakest" starters and have injuries that are hamstringing us a bit. I suppose if a quality Dtackle who could get after the QB became available, that's just always something you'd want.

I would wildcard throw in Safety IF they think Marcus Williams should just get the surgery done. We have very limited depth at Safety. If Williams is out awhile or doesn't return, and they really would rather have Hamilton as a roving Nickel, we'd need a Safety.

I see it similarly.

OL (particularly G) would be great but probably the least likely considering there isn't a ton of quality out there overall.

RB and ED/DL (I'm using these interchangeably since another pass rushing DL could help a ton as well) seemingly make the most sense.

CB makes sense to me only if it's a longer term option on the outside. Wouldn't be opposed to a higher quality sCB but Maulet has been playing well and we know Hamilton can slide into that role.

With the above thought... S is also my wildcard. Don't know that it necessarily has to be a starter level guy, but there's certainly room to add more quality depth there for a later round pick.

As much of an all in season as this is, I just can't see the Ravens giving up a premium pick when you're tight on the cap and have to replace Mads next draft.

you can definitely spend that capital if you're signing a star and taking him on long-term
ravens arent going to stop paying high-level players
they just wont be able to retain some of the middle-class of guys

I get that and I agree with everything you said. But :
You have 3 guys on the roster and Gordon on the PS. If you want to send a draft pick and do the financial juggles that come with a trade, do you really want to do it at that position, potentially creating a logjam.
There is an upgrade to be made for sure but you're not keeping 4 RB on an NFL roster. There are some tough decisions coming along.

im looking to buy low on a talent that's not normally available in free agency - if that guy's available then im not too fussed what position they play because it's a long-term move, and if they're not available then i dont think we're desperate at any position that needs a high-level starter to overpay for someone who's not a potential superstar

or im looking for a RB at a lower price who can join this backfield rotation

that's probably it in terms of trades

definitely should be looking at safeties and special teamers to add depth to this group

So I would imagine either somebody gets cut, or the phantom "he's got a one week injury, so he goes on IR for the rest of the year" type thing. Like if they added a starting-caliber RB today, I'd bet a huge sum of $ Mitchell goes to IR and doesn't return. Also obviously wouldn't have reservations about cutting Gordon from the PS.

Would point out... you've got the same problem pretty much everywhere else. If you add an Olineman, you've got to IR or cut an Olineman. That would likely be either Cleveland, Sala, or Mustipher, depending on who you add.
If you add an edge rusher, we only have five today, and Ojabo is due back soon. Moon may get cut when he gets back, or you have to take from another position group. What happens when you add another? What happens if Bowser eventually comes back?

Corner/Safety same concept. Seymour maybe goes to IR? Maybe you cut JAD? Pepe is still on IR... does he even come back? (not sure if they're planning to bring him back anyway).

Agreed there are tough decisions, but you can't shy away from cutting fringe depth if you're acquiring talented players.

Yeah I would think of it as where are the positions that I'm basically one injury away from being a weakness (excluding Lamar, of course).

Today, it's Linderbaum, Hamilton, Marlon (maybe). I think if you lose any of those three guys long term you've got to seriously try to find a higher quality guy to replace their loss. Zeitler maybe on that list due to lack of depth at Guard.

So those would be the position groups I'm targeting for depth/trade targets.

I know Keaton is the golden boy UDFA of the year but neither he nor Gordon should prevent us from trying to improve there, if possible and reasonable of course.

Further, you can easily keep 4. I don't see us in a roster crunch right now. There's some weight that could be trimmed if we needed space.

Kind of my thoughts as well. I'm not totally concerned on position. I think some make a lot more sense than others, but that doesn't mean those are the only routes we can go.

I think a RB or another pass rusher helps us most THIS year, but that obviously isn't the only consideration.

We’re clearly a team that’s in a position to buy but we’re not forced to

We’ve got a front office with security and the ability to plan the roster more than 1 year at a time

Good position to be in at the trade deadline - not saying there’s a roquan out there but no harm in looking

AJ Dillon would be a really nice inexpensive get and Jones would be even better.
I’d LOVE to get Jones here. He’s a baller. Dillon is not efficient
