I do not blame Lamar in this. The Ravens offered him a contract and he signed it.
I'd place larger blame on the Ravens for bloated contracts like Roquan and restructuring players on the downswing like Marlon.

I can't ever get too excited about comp picks.
The Ravens have largely been up and down in the middle rounds with DeCosta and it doesn't kick in until 2027.
I'd rather sign actual quality than celebrate an additional seventh round pick.
I knew the Ravens were always going to have an uphill battle with roster construction, but Linderbaum really took the wind out of my sails.

But at least we get something out of being ransacked. Think we tried way too hard in the past to protect those late rounders though. EDC seems to value 3rds and 4ths mostly, which I can at least respect.
Absolutely not, but I think they would have got it done last year at a much lesser amount if they had more wiggle room with those big contracts. They (rightfully) prioritized Hamilton last year when they felt they could only give out 1 deal.
we've seen recently the bottom fall out of the draft once you get in and around the 200s
3rd and 4th round picks are where you find starters that you're not supposed to find
that's how you get starters for cheap

Honestly, a lot of those players we lost got overpaid. I think we'll get better production out of players through FA or the draft at a much better value.

I have no real issues with any of it. Everybody is doing what they're supposed to be doing. Teams should continue to defer cap hits as long as possible, because today's costs on tomorrow's cap are always smaller.
Without those restructures, you're probably just fielding a weaker roster. Those restructure are what allow you to get mid-season deals for guys like Jones.
You could argue they should never be doing a trade/deal with somebody like Roquan anyway, but once you do, it makes no sense to front load or even have flat cap structures if you're actively trying to compete that year.
In fact, I'd argue EDC hasn't done enough in terms of maximizing void years. Lamar signed a $260M deal and only has $12.5M in void years. That's atrocious.
It definitely is a downer, but the good news is that C, maybe G, and a 5th DB are the only on paper absolute needs heading into season. The depth is weak at a number of places but also most of what we've lost is depth to this point. Good depth, but still depth.

The only guy I'm surprised we've lost is Stout. Everybody else, so far, is obvious. Just felt like Punter's are so easy to sign because the market is so clearly defined, but whatever, he's a Punter.

They'll need more than that. WR3 is a luxury but not a need. They'll need to add a Safety for sure, and probably another edge player or even two.
And, now, a Punter and a TE. Would imagine you can pretty much pencil in the latter two positions on day 3 for sure.
on the plus side, it's not because they're all out of the league...

they were desperately trying to retain a 3rd guy
they tried to retain (at various points) 3 other guys
there are 6 guys from that class (and counting) who are getting legit 2nd contracts
I forgot to add the line that those are the needs for a starting lineup. Obviously we need to add more but it's not like we're out here scraping the bottom of the barrel at the starting positions on the depth chart. We've got capable ones most places still, even if we still could improve.
For sure, but usually we get to some of those 2nd deals early. Think this new QB contract era has forced them into making some tougher decisions and we're paying a price for that to some extent.
