Signings, Cuts, Trades

I see. But then why trade him? Maybe for the same reason as Hollywood which is he no longer wants to be here.

EDC has said he wants guys who want to be here

he's also said that he wants to win any trade that happens - just hard to imagine us winning a chuck clark trade tbh... we've got very little leverage and chuck's value isn't super high to begin with

if he does go and it's just a late day 3 pick then it's probably more of a case of just recouping any sort of value you can while we've got the depth to replace him (with stephens as DB5... both CB3 and S3)

the other more basic reason to move chuck on if he doesnt want to be here is it eases the transition to Hamilton wearing the green dot as a rookie

Yeah I agree. I just can't see us "winning" a Clark trade.

It is when you look at it from strictly a return point of view, but do you also win by letting Hamilton take the reigns from day 1? Do you get more value out of the continued development of Stephens and Stone vs. 1 more year of Clark? Easy to forget things like that.

i think that would be more clearly a win if we're thinking of this as a transition year - which is possible for sure that we remain competitive and look to bounce back but maybe dont think we're right there right now...

there's a few moves that support that idea, the trade of marquise, the drafting of ojabo, this hypothetical trade of chuck but then that's kind of counteracted by the moves we've made on the DL and at OT with Campbell, Pierce and Urban returning and signing Moses and keeping James on the roster (for now)

it's certainly possible we see a bit of both - we've got 2 major free agents scheduled for 2023 in Lamar (who's obviously not going anywhere) and MP (who's more up in the air and we'll probably get more clarity on his future with the team once he's healthy) - but other than those 2 there's no obvious losses which means that this team may well likely be better in 2023 than in 2022

so i certainly could understand a chuck trade at a *loss* under those types of conditions

It's less about this year and more about next year if I had to guess. Chances are pretty high that he's on the FA market come the end of the 2022 season and that's where the money factor comes in. If he's in Baltimore for the season, he might have to settle for a 1 year deal on the open market because he's almost surely going to be playing less and less as the season progresses. If he plays 100% of the snaps elsewhere, maybe he can secure another 3y/$15M dollar deal with like $6M guaranteed, just to throw out a random number assuming he plays some solid ball. And maybe that's with the team that acquires him. Essentially, it's a virtual guarantee that he can't get another deal here in Baltimore so getting out now might increase his potential future earnings.
Possibly, but again, he's under control for two years. So even getting traded now and playing 100% elsewhere doesn't mean that team will extend him and give him more money.

I think you hit the nail on the head. The less he plays this season the more likely he will have to be on a 1 yr prove it deal next season.

I'm wondering if he would be willing to trade him for a 2024 pick to get a higher pick. I feel that's the only way we can get an early day 3 pick vs a 6th round pick next season.

God what a loaded secondary lmao. Always liked Fuller

Yeah y’all are thinking pre 2018 here. Guys not been good since then. Last year he scored a 48 or so. Solid depth I guess but with some of your reactions it seems like we’re getting a starter

Let’s hope he ain’t guarding WR1s all szn in this defense.
