Signings, Cuts, Trades

Baker excused from minicamp. What will happen to him? Are the Browns really not going to cut him?

If he sits the bench for Cleveland this year that would really be something.

If he gets cut, I'm sure someone will sign him.

I dont see any chance of someone trading for him.

Funny thing will be he'd probably just be the third QB and they'll inactivate him each week, BUT, with Watson suspended, there's no viable reason he's not at least the backup, if not the starter. So will be interested to see how they spin that.

My guess is he's not on the roster come week 1, one way or another. Maybe not even by training camp.

I could be wrong but I feel like I remember Cleveland saying Baker won't play for them this year it's going to be Brisset. Maybe that was in reference to who would be the starter in Watsons absence.

We'll see what happens to him but it doesn't seem like he has a chance to be a week 1 starter anywhere barring injury.

i didnt really watch him much in 2021, his snaps were still up around 75% though but he was notably less productive in sacks and pressures in 2021 than in 2020

he offers some inside-outside rush versatility, veteran presence on the EDGE and also some edge-set too - idk what juice he has left given i didnt watch him play much in 2021

would not be against this depending on his pricetag (which is notable because he's coming off a contract where his av/yr was 12.5m)

Clearly we still don't feel good about missing out on Zadarius.

Additionally, it's ridiculously clear WR is not a priority lol

idk about not a priority but there's just no real options unless we make a big trade outside of Odell and Julio and they're not ideal signings and in both cases we can wait on them

the only surprise about this visit is that it's not a houston re-signing

Odell I think you can obviously wait for. Julio you can also wait but not forever. That piece will fall eventually

Interesting. Does he have anything left in the tank? Is this an and or an or situation with Houston?
He had his moments this past year here in Tampa, but you could tell there wasn't much left. Still better than Fergie

Read an article saying Baker needs to take a pay cut to expedite his trade out of Cleveland. Fuck that, I’d take my fully garunteed 18 Mil and sit on the bench all year sticking it to Cleveland ownership. It’s not like the Panthers or Seahawks are begging him to come play. They want him on the cheap to fill a hole while they wait to draft his replacement. Take the money Baker, never play a down, and continue to allow the Browns to be the Browns .

Yeah the only argument for him doing that is whether or not his value to the market is higher now, or next year. In my eyes, it's clearly next year, which is why I'd agree with your take. Don't move an inch, force the Browns to either play you when Watson gets suspended, or sit the bench and collect a fat paycheck. And make sure you let the media know how great of a teammate you've been, supportive, etc.

I look around the league right now, and there's a bunch of teams that would seemingly have obvious lack of long-term stability at QB heading into 2023:
Dolphins: if Tua can't get it done this year, I imagine they'll be out on him, or bring in competition
Jets: maybe same with Wilson, though he probably has a longer leash than Tua
Texans: is Davis Mills really the answer?
Titans: certainly doesn't appear they're married to Tannehill beyond this year
Giants: could easily be the last year for Daniel Jones
Commanders: not at all married to Wentz after 2022.
Falcons: basically still don't have a QB
Saints: basically still don't have a QB
Bucs: never know when Brady is going to retire
Panthers: basically still don't have a QB
Lions: not married to Goff beyond 2022
Seahawks: basically still don't have a QB

Like a lot of these teams currently have or could get guys who are better than Baker, but he could easily wind up on a team as a bridge to a rookie draft pick, or even as somebody who competes with a younger player who's unproven.

I'm certainly waiting if I'm him.
