Signings, Cuts, Trades

I wouldn't. Barring a change in output this year, which is possible, I'm not sure how much more leash they're going to give Bateman, and he's fairly easy to move off of in '27 or '28 once his cap number starts to climb north of $10M.
Flowers is due an extension and will probably get one, meaning it'll make sense to pair him with a high draft pick within the next 1-2 years. Not sure it'll necessarily happen in '26, but I'd be shocked if we're not in on WR early in drafts in the next 1-2 years.

The only other possibility is they actually try to get like AJ Brown while Flowers still has a few more years of cheap left, but that's not the route I would go.
Pretty much this. They had talks on Bateman and understandably, no one was offering anything worthwhile enough after his rough year for them to move off of the talent. So they'll run it back and hope he's more like 2024 than 2025 and make that decision on his future next year. But I do not get the sense that he's viewed as a long term option right now and if they have an opportunity to get a clear one, they're going to take that shot. And if you extend Zay, draft one early, and Bateman comes back to life, that's a very good problem to have.

The problem is unless it's a Guard, I'm not sure there's a guy you can take at 14 who will play Tackle in year 1. So either they kick inside (which you need to find a prospect who somewhat fits that mold), or they sit for their rookie year. Not ideal.

I think they'll be in the Tackle market soon, just not sure it's this year. And I'd be quite surprised if they took a true long-term iOL at 14. If I'm taking a Guard at 14, he better be at like Zach Martin level.

Well Vega is a guard, proctor fits the mold you mentioned and Woods would play DE. So all 3 have starting jobs waiting for them. If they love a WR or somebody drops great, but if not, take the fatty.

My understanding of the current plans:

RB: Draft

WR: Considering both FA and draft. Market has been slower on certain guys in FA so they're considering capitalizing

TE: May add one more TE3 type for the minimum or so in FA, but largely draft

OL: Slow playing C but ready to strike if someone comes available (a la Elgton Jenkins). Largely going to be a draft thing but wouldn't be surprised if they add 1-2 more depth pieces via FA and make this a very open competition

DL: Considering both FA and draft

Edge: Looking to draft for the most part. If they add a veteran, it'll probably be much later in the offseason.

CB: Feel confident in a few guys in the mid rounds

P: Probably using a late pick
Njoku officially cut. He would be a much better plan at TE.

I mean in that scenario, I think they'd lean for the pass rusher. We certainly weren't one pass rusher away last year, so makes perfect sense to draft one early to pair with an expensive vet.
Again, Guard in the mid-1st is a pretty big stretch in my opinion unless you think they're basically perennial All-Pro, borderline HOF level.

I would also lean Woods, but I don't know their draft board. The main point is it looks like the 12-25 prospects are all about the same, so just take a fatty who can start day 1.

I'm surprised because in most cases developing a TE out of the draft takes a while and getting Njoku would be great as he would fit right in with Andrews and whoever we draft.
Yeah but you need roster spots to develop those guys. They have 2 vets already in Andrews and Smythe, and wouldn't surprise me if they add 2 young guys in the draft. Seems they might want to carry 4 this year so that's why another vet is probably going to be more roster competition/insurance in case they can only add 1.

Don't sleep on Tez, this may be his year to step up and shine.
I do think they have some genuine hopes for him this year. Still not sure I see it being more than a rotational thing, but I would expect him to be much more involved.

and not one of them is worth pick 14... Vega is definitely the closest of the 3 guys you listed

Proctor's more like a top 50 guy than a top 15 guy

Woods i dont even think is the best DL in the class, and again not a top 15 player for me

I completely missed the Smythe signing and he's a good blocking TE. Yeah, we've drafted two multiple times and the 2nd one has been better in those drafts also.

Completely forgot that Trey Hendrickson was part of that amazing Saints 2017 draft class.

Listening to Trey, he's really articulate.

The usual… if we don’t think there’s someone worth picking at 14, why would someone trade up?

Which is why I led with “not sure if we will find a trade partner” but everyone’s draft board and needs are different so there is a possibility of someone wanting to move up.

Especially if someone in the 18-24 range wants to jump the Bucs, Jets, or Lions for someone like CJ Allen, Vega, Sadiq, or a falling WR or CB.

Why did patriots let hawkins go but then sign byrd? Both are ball hawks. Byrd better but is he that much better? Did patriots think he was a one year wonder?
