English class, eh (see bolded word)? Either way, how did you do?
That one is rough considering I spelled it right in the next sentence lol. To be fair I typed it under my desk as our teacher is insane about phones especially during finals. If it shows I'm not a complete idiot, I did get a perfect ACT english score. My online typing is disgusting bad. It was out of a stupid AP system (IDK how familiar you are with it but it's 1-5 with 1 being you are a complete idiot most people who don't take the class can do better, 2 being eh you didn't pay attention huh, 3 being you passed but did you really, 4 being great and 5 being damn son) and she said depending on how others do I'm sitting around a 4 or a 5 so that's pretty nice.

I really don't read much, I never read unless it is forced, (something I need to change) so when I saw the books I just thought fuck, but I asked my hardcore feminist teacher and she rolled her eyes and said it's okay only if I make it good.

So I end with a 90.04. Pretty clutch. I guess I'm not the same old Ravens ha.

Eh I'm messing with you dude lol. And yes I'm familiar with the AP classes since I took AP Lit, AP Stat, and some AP world cultures class in my senior year.

As for the hardcore feminist teacher, I'm noticing that shit is becoming a trend (not so much feminist, but SJWs with this "call me by the correct pronoun" bullshit and other stuff). But congrats on the A! Plus, fuck calc but that's just me lol.

English classes ruined my love for reading. I hate having to do all of the analysis and finding all of the hidden meanings. I just want to enjoy the book, I don't need all of that crap distracting me.

the biggest mistake of english lit courses around the english speaking world is making it about rigorous analysis of almost entirely "classics" and seminal works of literature rather than engaging with the specific reading interests of the individual

i love pulling apart and analysing and thinking about books and other media that ive enjoyed and i do it all the time just incidentally as i think about specific character decisions or language choices etc. it adds value to the experience/enjoyment of those materials

the problem comes when you have a limited list of content that is mostly disconnected from the interests of those learning - sure lots of kids will enjoy reading seminal works of literature like catcher in the rye or shakespeare plays or the great gatsby etc. and lots of those books are interesting and worthy of study but there's no attempt in syllabuses to engage with newer works of fiction

i bet you a syllabus that had twilight for example on the syllabus would create some incredibly layered discussions on plot structure, subtextual themes, the evolution of YA fiction, the evolution of monsters in media among many other things

its snobbiness and aloofness that has ruined the the love of reading for so many and has deterred so many from understanding or being interested in subtext - and that has quite clearly filtered into the way that we as a collective consume other media and think about reviewing it - i blame this ruined enjoyment of textual analysis for the spate of criticism of all media that basically equates to unsubstantiated opinion of good vs bad when the job of criticism is to add value, understanding and context to a piece as well as evaluating its quality in a vague sense

anyway... tangential rant over

You make some good points, but I'm also lazy af, and I don't feel like thinking about all that while I'm reading. lol

it shouldnt be work - it should just happen - like when you just happen to be thinking about what you were reading you might notice something - or like when something is really well written you might notice a recurring motif or something

it shouldnt be something that distracts you or feels like hard work - you probably naturally already do it subconsciously if you're enjoying it

and im definitely not saying its a failing of you lol
