The General Front 7 Thread

Bowser is going to probably take more and more snaps from Judon. With his ceiling he could be an absolute beast for us in the years to come. I think he has a shot with this defense around him to legit conpete for DROY. His ability to make plays at various levels of the defense is huge.

I don't think he's necessarily stealing snaps from Judon because Judon has been playing inside a bit more now

Bowser was voted the Pepsi rookie player of the week. I am seriously shocked.

Wow, so I am, but I'm glad he is getting recognition. He deserves it.

This goes out to rmw10, if he can still here us.

I didn't even vote a gazillion times so it's a legitimate win lol - I think the last player who won that award for us was CJ Mosley... hopefully bowser has a similar trajectory

bowser had one stand out game. Hopfully he keeps at it cause only thing that matters is consistency
Well, bowsers college tape shows a lot to be excited about and showed very little downside other than raw pass rush moves, and he is clearly converting that to the field in the NFL.

So stop trying to rain on someone's parade

Yup, what he was able to do with fewer games was impressive. How the hell did he fall to 47?

im happy for him trust me, but its only one game. people were asking for zds head, but soon as he had a good game everyone changed their opinions about him and started calling him a great pass rusher lol. Only thing that matters isconsistency and one game shows no signs of that.

What's funny is ESPN thought we reached for him at 47.
Wow really? I mean OLBs that have his skillset and athleticism are generally far more valuable than even early 2nd round. He was definitely a top 50 prospect but it's espn so I guess I can't be that surprised.

He was being touted as a first rounder for a while.

I think him just having limited film as an actual pass rusher hurt his stock. He's a basketball guy who switched to football late and most of his good pass rush snaps came in one season, while the next season he was mostly used as an odd the ball linebacker. It's possible he was seen as way too much of a project with too limited tape. Can't say I blame the teams passing on him.

I was a big fan of his, and loved the pick, but still thought it was risky and I thought he had a fair chance to bust for those reasons. I thought the pros outweighed the cons though.

Here's the thing, ZDS has always been a big lumbering oaf since college days, rookie year he showed nothing impressive because his sacks came from coverage, and his second year those problems began to rear their ugly head, but in week 1 he showed a seriously refined skillset compared to years past. He wasn't sprinting straight upfield and taking himself out of the play, he wasn't clenching blockers and staying still, he was actually bending and disengaging and showing some lateral movement and good hand fighting, which is what he needed to show to be successful. Bowser on the other hand, had a strong and diverse skillset and he has already shown to be able to use that skillset very effectively.

You seem to look at raw numbers rather than try to correlate a players ability from one season to the next. People were calling for Z's head because he had shown zero improvement and it looked like he was stuck in rookie mode. Apples and oranges here.
