haha this dude cherry picks plays to make a point that isnt even pertinent, relevant or correct

so often his negative take on collins is that leveon bell would have beaten the defender (when collins doesnt) or that lev bell would have made the cut with one leg (that collins didnt)

but he also completely misses the point in that collins isnt running a 1-cut style behind a zone team where that would be relevant - no he heats the hole hard and then weaves through traffic and breaks tackles

and i love that he said collins weakness is lateral agility and then showed the one play where everson griffen stopped him from getting round the edge (and thus only gaining 4 yards rather than 44) - note everson griffen is an athletic freak and one of the best outside defenders in the league

he criticised collins for his cutting ability and then showed a play where james hurst couldnt hold off a backup defensive tackle when the hole titans defence got turned the wrong way which meant collins got taken down in the backfield

im not sold on collins being a workhorse (but ive never thought he wasnt a great back) in that sense - but im happy he's our starter because of the dynamism and playmaking he adds to this offence

my hope for our rbs is this:

Alex Collins leads the Ravens in rushing yards and carries
Kenneth Dixon leads the Ravens in total snaps
Buck Allen leads the Ravens in receptions

I think we have a nice complement of backs who will facilitate Collins continuing to be a monster in terms of efficiency of touches - i.e. maybe he isnt a workhorse but he'll end up with low-end workhorse numbers because he's a big play machine

You hope Buck has more receptions than Dixon?? Strange. Considering Dixon is 10x as lethal out of the backfield as Buck is.

i guess its partly me being realistic
i was going to put initially kenneth dixon leads the ravens in total snaps (and maybe total yardage)
i think buck ends up leading us in receptions and doing fine as an outlet - but i mostly see him leading us in receptions because i expect him to be in on 3rd downs

He's also 10x less durable than Allen, too. Dixon has a world of talent but he sadly can't seem to stay away from injuries.

Since workhorses are rare in today's NFL anyways, I have to agree with you. Collins had he played more snaps towards the start of the year would've eclipsed 1000 yards. Dixon should get significant touches anyways if he's healthy as he's the ideal compliment to him. Dixon is better between the tackles, and hopefully with Yanda and Lewis coming back he'll get more chances than last year.

I think Collins is an above average RB, one who can put up very good numbers in this scheme, but isn't the workhorse you'd want like a Bell, or a Mixon, or a Gurley is.

I think Buck is a good receiver, but is a remarkably average RB. I'd hope that Dixon leads the team in receiving yards and becomes the full time third down back, but Harbaugh has been known to play favorites.

i also dont want to do buck a disservice - he's shown enormous improvement and despite everything he always seems to get those big carries as a change of pace guy - he's been awesome at coming in with a lead and destroying the hopes of the opposing team by picking up 7 ypc and consistently moving the chains and keeping the ball in field

I was just gonna chime in to mention this. He’s done really well putting away leads, just a few carries late in the game and against a loaded box he’s still cranking off 5-10 yard runs and just getting us that extra first down. He’s had a way of really bowling over defenders, and making really good use of the space he’s given.

There’s nothing special about him overtly yet he has a knack for being a soul-destroying ball carrier for opposition teams

Maybe he trips over his own feet sometimes (and that’s way too often) but there are also carries where he waltzes through what on face value looks like it should be a good defensive run front

He’s a very good complementary back. Giving him 20 touches a game is a simply horrible idea, but he makes plays in the passing game and he picks up first downs rather well.

Yeah I think Allen did well as a 3rd down role RB but if you went into week 1 saying he was your starter than your team is in desperate trouble.

Agreed. I honestly really like Buck right now and I hope we use him more as a pass catching option out of the backfield. We did use him in that role last year but I want to see Buck run a more diverse set of routes and be more involved as a mismatch on the field.

putting away a game. I like the sound of that and certainly doesn't sound like the Ravens the last few years.
