The Random Thought Thread

Everyone says we choked in 19 and I agree. Played probably our worst game, but who predicted we'd go 14-2? I'd love to hear.

I don’t care if our record is 7-9 and we sneak in based on technicalities alone… what I care about is how we did in the playoffs. That should and used to be the ultimate goal. A Super Bowl. Not a participation trophy

Indeed. Given how Lamar played in 2018, who predicted that not only Lamar will have two perfect passer rating games, but lead the league in passing TDs AND win league MVP????

I mean, yes and no.

If I didn't care about at least the entertainment factor of the regular season, then I wouldn't start watching games until January.

At the end of the day, you generally have to be pretty good in the regular season to make it to the post season. You'll get some 7-9 or 8-8 teams get in sometimes, but they're rare and not sustainable. And they frequently don't do much in the playoffs either.

If my choices are a) go 8-8 and win a SB or b) go 14-2 and lose in the first round, I'll take option A.

Like for me, if you're not making the Conference Championship game, I don't really care what you do in the playoffs. 0 wins or 1 win... doesn't matter. I won't ever complain about losing in a Conference Championship game or in the SB. It's a tremendous accomplishment just to get there, and its not a disappointment when you lose. Even if I were undefeated going into it I'd still call it a great season.

we all have a goal of winning the Super Bowl, but that doesn't mean it's a complete failure if you don't win it all.

Depends on your expectations of the team. If we went the last two years of missing the playoffs and won a playoff game this season, then I consider it a successful season.

Regarding our beloved birds going into THIS season, anything less than an AFC Championship is a failure of a season IMO.

I can absolutely get on board with that.

yeah this is the thing - while the playoffs matter more in the historical standings of things - as a fan i watch 16 games of the regular season and at most only 4 games in the playoffs (if everything goes perfectly) - i derive joy all throughout the season from the ravens - obviously i want them to win the superbowl but every game has a chance to become a favourite

if it was all about the playoffs then the only games i could possibly have cared about since 2014 were the titans playoff win this year and the 3 playoff losses... and ive definitely cared a whole lot about tons of games in that time period... even meaningless ones

So when is training camp or the next date of importance?
Training camp open 7/28 and lasts through 8/16, though they won't practice every day and many sessions won't be open to the public. They will be doing joint practices in South Carolina with the Panthers 8/18-8/19 it appears, prior to their preseason game that week.

Preseason games:
August 14th vs Saints
August 21st @ Panthers
August 28th @ Washington

Roster cutdown deadlines:
90 players to 85 players by 8/17
85 players to 80 players by 8/24
80 players to 53 players by 8/31

See I love watching every single playoff game from every team simply because of the do or die mindset every team has. There’s no lack of will or lack of give a d@mn from anyone. The disappointment and pure joy is something I crave too

dont get me wrong - i love it - but the regular season makes up a much larger proportion of the season and it feels a bit simplistic to say that it doesn't/didn't matter just because of a playoff loss...

I grew up on watching both the Ravens and Patriots (both when I could; grew up in East TN, which is why I know a thing or two about Tee Martin). Neither of those teams used to have those magic regular seasons outside of a couple years… but both rocked the playoffs. That’s why I am the way I am probably
