The Random Thought Thread

Got to say, the way they review the spot of the ball is making the USFL so fun to watch. Crazy how the NFL continues to live in the 20th century with chains and old dude eyes trying to figure out if it's a 1st or not.

This was really cool. Also loved how their "reviews" were not more than 15-30 seconds from booth.

We need more hurry up offense early in games
I like the hurry up, but I think someone as emotionally charged as Lamar really benefits from the first series being scripted, paced, and methodical. Once he has settled in, let the man do his thing.

Lol.. idk man.. i think we try to pretend that we dnt put women on a pedestal when in fact we do..i mean not above everything else but we do treat them special for sure.. ill never put my hands on a women.. now a man, i dnt tolerate any kind of disrespect in the slightest way regardless of who you are.
We put them on a pedestal because they have sexual organs that we crave, and can withhold that from us at anytime they wish. It's biological.

I don't put women on a pedestal from an intelligence standpoint, emotional standpoint, income standpoint, and certainly not from an abuse of power standpoint. They can be every bit as vindictive, power grabbing, and vicious as man can. And in some cases, they'll use that power to attack you both emotionally and physically.

It would take a lot for me to strike a woman. It certainly wouldn't happen through just words. But if I'm being physically attacked by any human being, gender is meaningless. The scenario plays out exactly the same, regardless. I de-escalate the situation, and its purely at my discretion what that involves.

If people are uncomfortable with that, they'll have no choice but to continue being uncomfortable with that.

Plus lets be fair... if the notion is "thou shall never strike a woman for any reason", how do we reconcile that with women who serve in the military? Are we supposed to pretend like there's some arbitrary moral code in warfare?

I love when people get upset with this stuff. Typically blue/purple haired women or weak beta type dudes…. In the majority of populations, men have larger and stronger bone and joint surfaces, and more bone at muscle attachment sites. So yes woman are physically more fragile and that’s ok to admit
Also the physical dynamics are the biggest knock against transgender athletes. People pretend like males and females (genetically created that way, not emotionally identified that way) are the same in terms of bone density, joints, and muscle development. They're not.

I'm just waiting for the moment where like a supreme athlete of note, like a LeBron, for example, decides he wants to identify as a woman, and then go dominate the WNBA for 20 years. I don't think the reaction will be what people think it will be...

And yet all scientific studies suggest that transgender athletes on HRT have no inherent athletic advantages over cisgender athletes

Textbook awful coaching - so many things wrong here

1) trying to be a hardass for no reason
2) making decisions over an incident without investigating and getting both sides
3) when faced with additional context, ignoring it because you’ve made your decision

But on a fundamental level you’ve shown the player no respect and thus have shown you’re untrustworthy and not worthy of respect yourself

He may have just ruined this kid’s attempt at a career but this clip will haunt him as a coach wherever he tries to go next

I’d have done the same thing. Don’t come in here and tell me I have to eat what I assume is some garbage ass chicken salad.

Weird how all the examples you hear regarding trans athletes are trans women and not trans men. Almost as if women transitioning to become men, physically can not compete with their new male counter parts.... shocking lol

Well its probably not so much that they can't. It's that they're not competing at a high enough level to compete with men, i.e. there aren't sufficient number of women converting to men who will compete at a high enough level to compete with men.

Hold on... so you're telling me usfl even has its own hard knocks?

And what about the one's that aren't on HRT? It's not a requirement to identify as transgender, either...

no but it is a requirement of transgender women who want to compete in elite sport to have testosterone levels below a certain limit and after 1 year on HRT 94% of them are not just under the limit but nearly 3 times lower than the limit - in some elite sports as well, there is a 1 year HRT minimum requirement too before being allowed to compete

there have always been testosterone limits on women's sport imposed by the IOC and other governing bodies

this "issue" of transgender women participating in women's sport has become such a boogeyman - but there are basically no instances of trans women dominating in their athletic field... and in fact very few trans women who even make it into elite teams let alone win competitions

in recent history there's been 1 collegiate athlete swimmer who won like 1 competition and 1 british elite cyclist and that's basically it as far as im aware

post-HRT just about the only common advantage for trans women is height

Right, but that's not my point. The point is the reason there hasn't is because there's not been anybody high profile enough to warrant any real discussion about it. It would require something that impacts one of the 4-5 major sports in America, or even in the world. Transgender cross-overs in sports like Swimming, for example, isn't going to move the needle, because nobody cares about swimming except for about 1 week every four years when the Olympics are on.

I'm not sure using "well it hasn't happened yet" as a barometer for future expectations is wise at this point, given the relative "newness" of the entire concept. Transgender participation in high-level athletics isn't something that's been around for very long.
