A more effective tax system would require the government to figure out a way to tax intangible value, like net worth, which is asinine to begin with. Much of the wealth nationwide isn't in tangible assets.
Universal health care won't solve the problem people think it will. It'll make healthcare more affordable, but its nowhere close to guaranteeing to make people healthier. There's no point in making it cheaper to be unhealthy. Solving healthcare problems in pretty much any nation is a product of cultural shifts and education to consumers about how to actually live healthy lifestyles.
And no, eating and living healthy isn't expensive.
