On the subject of WR I think we do that because we think we can get cute and pull off a late round steal and look brilliant a la PIT and Vikings but the problem is I think we get too cute and too I don’t know in the early rounds. I mean we took Bowser when we could’ve taken Juju and most of us wanted Juju. Not saying Bowser blows but he can’t see the field. That’s the problem though is we hoped and prayed Juju would fall to our third but if you like him that much be aggressive and get him or take him and trade up for Bowser. This is where we are failing—we are losing the draft stock game imo. We’ve been losing the chess game and I think it’s why we still do well in the middle rounds because we can still evaluate talent but we lose the early rounds because we get too cute and too conservative and have no feel for who is going to go where and take these high upside guys or get way too conservative.

Ridley and Moore were sure things to me. I think Ridley was great but didn’t like how old he was or his size because I feared he would be injury prone. I like him better than Hurst and I don’t dislike Hurst I just liked Ridley more. I’m scared of first round TE because I don’t think they contribute and make immediate impacts unless they’re my boy OJ Howard

Ridley has issues with his size and his age but nothing outside that as his routes were superb coming out and his speed was there. Very confusing that we didn’t take him honestly
The highlight of the past few years for me was picking Kamalei Correa over Michael Thomas and Tyler Boyd. That still haunts me till this day. I loved Thomas and wanted him here so badly and was disappointed as hell when we passed on him and I mean damn we could have even used Tyler Boyd who I was a fan of and mocked to this team. I don't get this team. I know we needed a pass rusher but you're taking a project over two WR studs who you could get in round 2? Sadly we knew Smith Sr. was one foot into retirement and we needed another playmaker and we were silly enough to pass on a WR again.

Even going back to 2014, the draft had all types of studs at WR and we picked Jernigan? How does that make sense when we needed playmakers? That was a pure BPA pick that didn't even last four years here.

And you're totally right with what we try doing with WRs and it doesn't make any sense.

Yeah, I also wasn't too high on the Bowser pick TBH. I didn't really look into him or know about him and wanted a WR there too.

Says what? Pff? Lol

Hrmf, no - say the eyes if you care to watch any of their games.

Someone hasn’t watched him this year.

exactly - he's been one of the best rookies in the league so far this year - easily...
In case anyone is curious...

"He's not making a ton of impact plays in terms of interceptions or sacks or those stat-column plays, but when you watch the film, he's a really big part of what they do," one scout said of Fitzpatrick, per Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.

Fitzpatrick has indeed emerged as a fixture on the back end of Miami's defense. More importantly, he's shown his versatility by playing both cornerback and safety—and he's excelled. According to Pro Football Focus, no player with at least 100 snaps at corner has allowed a lower passer rating."

Sometimes people just don't know what they're looking at. I think that's pretty clear here.

I still think Minkah was the top player in 2018 draft class. Nobody better.

Please don’t talk about Tyler Boyd or Thomas. I wanted both but really wanted Boyd and while Thomas is better I can’t believe we let Boyd go. That has to be one of the worst drafts we’ve had. I didn’t mind Jernigan but your early picks need to see the field and make immediate impacts. That’s why we are struggling because we draft guys early but they take forever or never start and we keep double downing on those position groups because they suck and we can’t admit it. It’s like having lung cancer and you take chemo but keep smoking or whatever.

I didn’t know shit about Bowser when we got him. I didn’t even bother looking at second round defensive players because of how bad we needed a wr I was sure we were going to select juju and I’ve seen him play so many games at usc. I just was like what the fuck.

A similar moment was 2013 when Keenan Allen was still there after being mocked to us in the first in many drafts. We traded up in the second and I was celebrating and we got fucking brown.

Moral of the story, never take a linebacker in the second round over a receiver from California.

Ravens front office: alright guys we have had a huge problem at losing games in the last few minutes who can we bring in to change this???

Ty montgomery.

better moral - dont pick linebackers high in the draft in the modern nfl

Rmw was a huge fan of Bowser when we drafted him

One thing to notice is that it’s funny how we structured contracts. Almost every contract we have for our cap-heavy veterans allows us to get out of it next year. I say it’s funny because Ozzie stated it was the plan all along for Eric to take over since the 2013 draft or whatever—I forget.

Looking at that, let’s see who we can cut and how much the savings is:

QB Joseph Vincent Flacco: $10.5M
CB Jimmy Smith: $9.5M%
DT Brandon Williams: $9.250M*
S Tony Jefferson: $3.8M
G Marshal Yanda: $7M%
WR Michael Crabtree: $4.6M
S Eric Weddle: $6.5M%
CB Brandon Carr: $4.5M
WR Willie Snead: $4M%
OL James Hurst: $1M
* Post-June 1st cap cut or trade designation
% final year of contract

Please note some of these guys have higher dead money than their savings so James Hurst can save $1M but he’ll have almost $4M in dead cap for a decent backup. I find it interesting because some of these cap hits could easily be shed if DeCosta wants to shed weight. I don’t think it’s a simple math problem though because IMO Jimmy > Carr if healthy but that’s the issue. Also

I remember reading an article about all players from the 17 drafts roof and floor. It had weird stats for all like athleticism and for corners arm length and shit like that. It said marlon would only ever be average but that tyus would be a superstar.

Rip.

Maybe we just have to wait till his contract year for him to show up

Also said Chuck Clark could be a pro bowler ahahahhaha.

Analytics are a good tool but should never be taken as rule.

Tyus' problem is that we're trying to make him something he's not. He should be a SAM LB and nothing more. We have problems covering the TEs. Switching over to a 4-3 where CJ Would not have as many coverage responsiblities would literally make our lives much easier. I love what Wink is doing too but in certain instances we are playing ourselves. Even Ozzie wanted him to play the SAM. We have the personel to have a top tier 4-3 LB corps but nope. It's maddening. Offenses are starting to figure us out and we need to throw a monkey wrench in.

It was the same with kc he would have been a great 4-3 backer.. even Author Jones. I don’t get why we don’t do it. Back with chuck we were in the 4-3 all the time. Our inability to cover tight ends is disgusting. Urban and wormley at d end, pierce and Williams in the middle, mosley tyus and young.. with Williams switched it to rush the passer damn. Imagine trying to run on that front 4. And the ends are both like 6’7 (Kafusi would have worked in that scheme too ugh)
