The Random Thought Thread

I mean we did take Matt Elam and he turned out to be a huge drug dealer lmao so I wouldn’t say all our early picks pass background checks
At least he did start out small as a shoe salesman, can't project that he''ll end up as a drug dealer.

who should we have taken with character risks since?
2015 Marcus Peters, Shane Ray.
2016 Spence
If we had really wanted to draft these guys we could have traded up. This is without using hindsight. I have to take a look the old drafts to see where players actually went relative to where we were picking.

Jernigan was the year of the incident and I'm pretty sure before it all really came to light. The others are later round picks as someone else pointed out. I did mention Tim. A player like Mixon deserved to be taken if we're just speaking football.

I also come from a school of thought we're I really don' care what a player does off the field as long as they are there on game day. I'm not here to admire or look up to these athletes. I'm here to see a winning product. Couldn't care less if one of the guy's a scumbag off the field as long as he's performing.

The Ravens were not in the positon to draft Joe Mixon even if they wanted to. The Ray Rice situation is because of that. Its easy for you or even me to say as fans that The Ravens should have drafted Joe Mixon anyway base on his talent as a football player but neither you or me are putting up millions of dollars for such players in the draft.lets not even talk about how upset some fans would be but lets look at this at a pure business standpoint. The Ravens could lose partnerships with other organizations alone just by drafting Joe Mixon. Im talking about a company like Under Armour and more. Its bigger than just winning games.

A organization has a PR staff for a reason and theres no way The Ravens could make it look good by explianing why they drafted Joe Mixon. I miss Ray Rice but im againat domestic violence and I respect The Ravens stance against it.

marcus peters went 8 picks ahead of us in the 1st round
shane ray went ahead of us also (and also isnt a great player)

that 2015 draft was an all round shit show though - so many 1st rounders who just havent done anything in the league - some studs too but far fewer studs than busts

Brandon Scherff, Leonard Williams, Todd Gurley, Andrus Peat, Melvin Gordon, Byron Jones and a couple of others maybe

Spence is not a good player - he's had 1 sack in the last 2 seasons - we were absolutely right to pass on him

I didnt mean we should draft him. Just using him as a reference in general. And winning turns that around. If they produce people forget very quickly. Look at Hill.

Also.. I dont think it was technically DV and if we want to get REAL TECHNICAL... she hit him first in the mixon situation. Now... that's not how I would respond but why is ok when a woman assaults a man but hes the scum of the earth for retaliating?

I mean if you’re gonna say that then Rice’s fiancé hit him first too. In Rice’s case even though he retaliated he hit her 200% harder. Idk about the Mixon case but I’m assuming he probably hit her harder too...that’s not really the point though.

I agree that sometimes women get a pass for those things and that’s not ok but retaliation isn’t ok just because she hit him.

people forget, teams hope they forget

but they shouldnt - and i cant support any player like that - no matter how well they play the game

because she didnt assault him - she beckoned him to her - gave him a small shove in the chest and then kinda partially half-heartedly slapped his neck?!? - he broke her jaw in retaliation and didnt show any remorse about it at all

at that point it doesnt matter what her character is - she isnt being drafted into the nfl - and no matter how annoying she was, that doesnt legitimise her getting sucker punched in the face

Again.. I wouldn't handle the situation the way he did. That said, there is a blatant double standard in these situations. We're not going to agree on this. Take gender away from. If I tell you a person shoves someone. Then hits that same person in the face why is the person that instigated the situation not on alert first off. second, you would most likely be surprised they didn't respond physically. No one should put hands on anyone to begin with. Like I said, wont see eye to eye on this.

No lie... I think a couple of years ago Elam was in my flag football league.

What league do you play in? I play in Baltimore County’s league. We have an former NFL player on my team, so it wouldn’t surprise me if he was playing flag
