The Random Thought Thread

Was just looking at our remaining schedule to see if we could still make offs... at first i thought we could still do it but then i looked at the colts remining schedule and lol, they may not lose anymore games if they win this sunday

Eh. Tennessee twice is rough and Im not feeling the Colts in Houston yet either. But Indy has definitely heated up over the past 3 weeks.

Who do you think the obvious misses were?

I will start by saying I don't watch a lot of college ball. That said, in 13 there was Keenan Allen and Tyrann Mathieu. Those are 2 prospects I personally felt confident in and both at positions of need. There are probably more others have mentioned but those 2 I remember wanting, especially Honey Badger. In 14 I didn't want Mosley, but wasn't mad at the draft it self.

I'll get to the other picks later but even in 16 when Correa was picked AFTER trading back there were so many better options available. If we don't plan on actually playing the damn guy his first year, why not take a chance on a proven player and let him heal (Smith, Jack). Juju was available, Thomas has been available and it just seems like this team is gun shy at the position because of past mistakes. There's also the fact we draft passively and always trade down instead of moving up to grab guys they really value, until this year.

the 6th seed likely is between the 2nd place team in the AFC South and the 2nd place team in the AFC North - the dolphins are trash and the West is almost already guaranteed to have the 5th seed

if you're the bengals or ravens you have to hope that the Titans and Colts kind of take each other out of the race and that the Texans beat them both
the titans colts and bengals ravens games this week are objectively huge wildcard games in the AFC

conceivably the AFC 6th seed holder could be .500 after week 11 (as well as 4 other teams)
if the ravens beat the bengals and the colts beat the titans then these teams will all be .500:
  1. Bengals
  2. Dolphins
  3. Titans
  4. Colts
  5. Ravens
so while i thought we were dead and buried after losing against the steelers - the weakness of the AFC outside the top 5 teams ironically leaves it wide open - beat the bengals and suddenly the playoffs are in our hands again unless the titans win out i think which is crazy given that we've just lost 3 in a row

The conspiracy theorist in me thinks BB is giving wins away to his old coordinators. No way those bums should have beat them.

That fact that we’re battling for a playoff spot with the colts, titans and dolphins is just depressing. Those teams are trash

the dolphins are trash but...
the colts have been a good team after their awful start
we waxed the titans but they also are an improving team with some elements coming together

so we should be disappointed that we are in the race with these guys but it's not like the titans and colts are bad teams...

We have too many tough games left for us to make jt. Unless we start lamar and he just plays out of this world i dont see us making it anymore

i mean there's only 2 teams on our schedule with a better record than us other than the bengals...
if more than 3 of those games turn out to be tough then we really arent a team deserving of a playoff spot because we should run through at least 4 of those teams with relative ease

In our division alone the Bengals have an easier schedule and seem to be more reliable this season. Wouldn't be surpsised if Colts or titans finished better than us.

me neither but there's nothing that really indicates either way for sure yet - the picture will be much clearer after week 12
in the next 2 weeks:
  • the ravens and bengals play each other
  • the colts and titans play each other
  • the colts and dolphins play each other
there will likely be at least a 2 game cushion between some of these teams by the end of those 2 weeks
although there is a possibility that that would be impossible - all those 5 teams can be 5-5 after this week's slate of games (if ravens beat bengals and colts beat titans - dolphins are at 5-5 and on bye)
