The Random Thought Thread

Went outside the box in recent years with guys like Chuck Smith and Keith Williams who were private coaches. Trusted that Tee Martin's experience playing the position was more valuable than his lack of resume-level experience in coaching QBs. Jumped on talent like Anthony Weaver and Dennard Wilson when they were inexplicably available. Unafraid to go to the college ranks with our key guys - Macdonald and Monken. Although you still have some friendly hires (e.g. Willie Taggart), Harbaugh has bucked the trend of hiring guys he's familiar with and has cast a wide net to try to find the right guy, not necessarily the known guy.
You think if we win SB this has a chance to become a more widespread trend? It doesn't feel like many other teams are inclined to break from the entrenched NFL way of "coming though the ranks"? There has to be a lot of people out there who know what they're doing but never get an opportunity because they aren't a friend of a friend from the same circle?

Probably not in all honesty, and I say that because not many teams have a head coach with a stint as long as Harbaugh. At lot of these first time coaches have to put together their staff as part of the interview process, and they're usually pulling guys that they know and/or guys that have been around the bend. Teams are generally encouraged to fill their vacancies quickly, while coaches like Harbaugh can sit back and take their time and actually cast that wide net.

Knowing his background, I'm pretty sure Steve must have been involved to some extent with that whole concept. Maybe some other owners would want to try to replicate it and give young coaches more time to develop something similar?

maybe they buck from the trend and hire some of us as scouts!

Very few teams seemingly value stability nowadays. Don't think it's any coincidence that 2 of the longer tenured coaches (Harbaugh and Tomlin) were both picked because the team was patient and went through the process instead of jumping at the hot name. I know we offered Jason Garrett the job at the time and he chose to stay, but if we really wanted him that badly, he'd have been here.

Was thinking about this the other day after seeing/hearing Garrett on the tube. We really owe him a lot for turning us down.

Thank you Jason, or whoever.

It couldn't have worked out better. Reports that have come out since said he was the top choice but by no means a runaway. Sounds like more money could have gotten it done but the Ravens were content with Harbaugh at that point.

would be a great idea for them but this is just an aggregator
they already took someone from the analytics department and it's clear Josh Harris wants to build a team to emmulate the Ravens. I'm hoping he takes a GM off the Eagles staff. He has been close with the Roseman due to owning the 76ers

Saw how bosa said that on tape lamar was sitting in pocket or whatever but when we played him shit was different and next time they gotta contain the edges or something… that alone should let lamar know that he basically controls the game and he cant be stopped

When the lineup for this season and the schedule came out....I was honestly expecting a 10-7 season. The Odell Beckham signing had me cringing really hard, and you can argue to the teeth whether it was worth it or not but I initially saw it as an attempt to justify the Lamar contract. The Ravens were always a playoff viable team but there was something about this season I wasnt feeling too comfortable with. And thats the Ravens going so "all in" through the course of the last two off seasons. To me, this all spelled disaster and a situation where we would just be relying on Lamar's ankles that didn't have the greatest past.

The evolution of the players on this roster is something alot of people cant account for, and I'll attribute that to this organization and how it's adapted over the years to it's obvious problems. While it can be nerve wracking having a coach with a penchant for going for it on 4th down and being aggressive, look at other forums. We have been spoiled so much as a Special Teams Unit that our own fans need to be reminded how we dominate compared to everyone else. I've never doubted our Special Teams and Defense, yet there was always that "thing" that kept us from going further.

Long story short, im admitting I was in the crowd that was calling the Ravens a Boom or Bust with the expectation of a horrible downfall followed by years of cap hell. While that's still a story to unfold....I NEVER expected this. I made an entire account, after shitting on the Ravens Boom or Bust approach to just say.....damn. They might do it.

@RavensMania , Washington continues to prove why they're a poverty franchise. Yeah let's go ahead and target one of the worst DCs this season.

Hortiz and Macdonald will definitely be a 1-2 combo somewhere in the future but hopefully both stay on beyond this year. I do worry that if Jim leaves Michigan that Michigan could throw a bunch of money at Macdonald for him to be the Head Coach.

My guess Elliot. Marlon said he heard him say it to the player. Marlo and Kyle were both on the sidelines and recently played them.

Chuck went on IR to start the season, so it couldn't be him.

My first thought would be Deshon, but it feels weird for a defensive player to trash talk another defensive player. Usually only bang on the opposite side of the ball. Plus, KHam didn't even play in the Miami game.. doubt he'll be banging while in street clothes.

Imma say its Hollywood. He got traded in KHam's draft. It wasn't with that pick... but it's still a good banger of a line lol
