The Random Thought Thread

If McDermott loses this game, and likely the BIlls miss the playoffs, he should be fired. They goal for the team was to, if not win, at the very make the Super Bowl and they will have missed the playoffs. They had some defensive injuries but considering what everyone else had to miss the playoffs, especially when you play in the same division as the Jets and Patriots, is simply unacceptable. Going 2-2 against the two worst teams in the conference is unacceptable.

Just look at the Bills trajectory since they made the AFC Championship game. After losing to the Chiefs in the AFC Championship game, they lose to them narrowly in the divisional round in 2021. They then get stomped in the divisional round by the Bengals. You then follow it up being out of the playoffs after the team that beat you lost their QB, and one of your key division rivals lost their QB which in theory they should have no problem making the playoffs and they could not even manage that.

How many years of falling short does it take especially when this one would be the worst one of all?
if they don't make the playoffs the owner or GM isn't going to fire McDermott but he will be on the hot seat and changes will be inline. I had this discussion with my friend who is a Bills fan and originally he wanted him fired but now would prefer a change at the OC position, unless Brady wins some games in the postseason.

Now, should McDermott be there for the long haul. I'm with you, I don't think they are going to win it all with him at the helm, I just don't think they make a change.

I think we can judge Stroud already. (I was ready to judge him after week 1 when he looked great for his 1st game.) He's really good.
I wouldn't write Young off entirely yet but it's not looking good.

Also-

The Bills lost on a coin toss in 21 and looked great - that wasn't a downward trajectory.
No one considered Lamar a bust after 2018, even if a lot of people thought Baker looked more promising.
I think what Adreme is saying is that Stroud will have a full season of tape on him and year two struggles often occur because of that. I think Stroud is going to be a stud in this league, but I also have confidence that Young, when he gets a bit more talent around him and a good coaching staff that the owner doesn't fire every other game could do really well also. The only negative with Young coming out of college was his height. He's an extremely smart and savvy player whose best weapon was a 90 year old wr with 10.3 speed.

Lamar was never a bust and no one was ever saying that. It took Allen until he had an offseason with Jordan Palmer to actually start to come into his own. Not his fault that the team hasn't really built around him outside of Diggs. He has to play hero ball in Buffalo and they need to draft another WR.

For Lamar pretty much everyone did outside of the Baltimore bubble. He was the new Tim Tebow. Remember the last time people saw him that year was when he got demolished by the Chargers going over 2 hours in real time without completing a pass. There is a reason those MVP lines were that insane. Josh Allen similarly was a bust (which continued until he got Diggs to throw to). If we judged Baker after his rookie year he was going to be really good. Then the rest of his career in Cleveland happened.

Again though going from losing the AFC Championship game to losing in the Division round, even if its a close game, is still a step down, especially when you lost because the supposed number 1 defense in the NFL could not stop a quarter from driving down the field in 13 seconds and your HC is supposedly a great defensive guy. They then got blown out in the same round the following year and, in this scenario, do not make the playoffs this year, in a year when there are no excuses for not making the playoffs.

Basically my point. I am not saying Stroud will not be great and think it is more likely than not he is. I just think calling someone great after a rookie year is premature when we have seen 2nd year struggles with a lot of players once these defensive coaches get an entire offseason to figure out everything about you from the tape.

yes, thats what I thought you were referring to and it's happened a lot.

I recall everyone calling Sam Bradford a stud after his offensive rookie of the year performance, than everyone studied his tape in the offseason. It's happened to a lot of players but that's one I remember from a while ago

Thoughts on Trenton Simpson? To me he looked like a potential game changer.
He looked really good. I think it was telling since he seemed to be very effective and shined in the game against the Steelers. I think a future of him and Ro will be a good one. It also looked like he was playing some WLB to me during the game while PQ played MLB? I could’ve gotten mixed up but I feel like I saw that. I’m less worried about LB and more worried about Edge, CB, S, DL—especially Edge & DL since we’ve been run on with Madubuike and Pierce and our Edge guys who contribute are mostly old men veterans. Special Teams is also another area of concern because that unit was and has not been very good.

his best tape in college was sam off the edge. His speed is really good as well. I was really happy to see him perform really well last night.

Lol at Beckham complaining about not playing, and this not getting his bonus, by saying he's gotta feed his family. Come on dude. You've got people completely homeless in the very city you play in. Is that really appropriate to say
