The Random Thought Thread

It really sucks ass we don't have a second round pick this year as we really need one. We need to control the LOS better on both sides
I'm tired of ignoring the offensive line but at the same time you will find a play maker in round 1 way more often than later..

Stanley and Brown are an incredible tackle duo so I wouldn't touch that.
Sakura has been okay. He started off rough but I think he is okay enough to be able to focus on other areas.
I don't like Alex Lewis but the coaches seem to love him. Hurst is a very okay guard we just need to get him back (I'd guess or hope post bye week)
Yanda is Yanda but I think that next year is his last. We just might be able to grab a guy or two in the 3rd or 4th but I think our line is at a far better level when we can get guys healthy and together than we saw last week.
What in the world are we going to do with a 2nd round pick? We screw up on these picks so often is the reason I believe they traded it away! Think about it Cody, Arthur Brown, etc...

this point isnt a reason for him to stay its 100% the most likely reason for him to go

Eric would get to pick his guy to be his coach and would get to shape the organisation from his inception as GM
it makes more sense to do it all in a single offseason than spread it out over multiple offseasons...
Actually what you are saying is how Chris Carter and Chris Canty led into the conversation... by saying first that it could be that Eric would want to pick his guy for HC but then do you want that much change at once. It wouldn’t feel that way if we had an established QB.

I think there's a lot of lazy journalism out there, repeating stuff that someone else said first.

- don't need to see Harbaugh with some other QB - he would screw that one up with incompetent OC, too
- new GMs usually want their HC and QB on the team, what's the problem?
- it's very debatable after watching last 4 years of the same crap
- that one might be true but most of the players always say that
I don’t know if I’d call what I’m referencing as journalism ... it was Chris Carter and Canty on a show. I do give Canty some credence as he’s spent time on this team.

Problem with all journalist or any one who doesn’t truly follow a team is they don’t see all the little maddening things. The losses that just can’t be allowed to happen and the details on why they happened.

But the biggest knock and the reason I feel he’s run his course here to is the merry-go-round of shit OCs. With the exception of Kubiak all of his hires have been poor and he’s held onto most of them too long. If he stays you gotta assume that continues. We can’t hsve that when we’re trying to develop A young QB

That is the case but that's what you would hope for. I think he's going to have a ressurgance soon since that's the trend for Joe but it's the end of the line anyways. We would have to make the post-season and he would have to go off in order for him to stay but that's doubtful atm. I think his time here is done.

I think the defense is ready for a major downfall. Like we're going to see them struggle badly soon and it's the trend for them during this time of year.
I do hope we move on from him no matter what and I hope we can get something for him. I was definitely hoping for the Alex Smith scenario but it’s not been going that way.

The one thing that will make him attractive to a team that has playoff aspirations without much experience in the post season is that Joe is well proven in that environment. We need whatever draft capital we can get so I hope we get something.

A QB away from what? Making playoffs? I don't think making the post-season would be all that great of an achievement when what this team really wants is to contend for a title more then that. I think the standards aren't that high to make it given who has been making it the past couple of seasons.

I don't think we are a QB away from anything. What position on this team can the unit really hang their hat on? Offense? You don't have a run game, your OL is solid, your WRs are solid but look better compared to the atrocity you had last year and your defense itself has issues that are unraviling. We all thought the secondary would be a supreme strength of the team but Jimmy isn't the player who is he fully capable of being, Carr is solid but not elite, and Marlon is the only guy you hope to have out there but he's missed a couple of games and isn't 100%. There's no pass rusher that you can trust to get a sack when it matters most and this DL is not as good as we hoped because they're getting worked. No coverage in the middle of the field from the LB and while Mosley is good he has a few of his downfalls as well. TJ and Weddle as a duo has been a disappointment and the run game has issues at the 2nd level. Special Teams isn't even good atm.

I don't think there's one place this team can identify as a strength right now. They're just good, solid or average at most places. Every team that wants to contend for a title does something that a very select few can do themselves.
Tucker lol

I mean scheme change is inherently disruptive - if anything it’s easier for them to mould someone from scratch than change the ingrained schematic habits of a decade long veteran

And simultaneously a new coach is not going to be beholden to the schemes that came before

The clean sweep would allow everyone to grow together

No this came direct from a conversation between Chris Carter and Chris Canty. I do know you said some of this stuff and you said it before I saw the clip.
That’s interesting. Nice to hear since Canty was actually with the team so maybe he knows a little bit. I wasn’t saying it to get credit or anything btw I just wanted to see if someone else isolated from me had thought the same thing.

Frankly I think Tampa Bay would be his best bet. They want to move away from Winston and Joe would offer them that opportunity over Fitzmagic.
I agree. Imagine Joe with Jackson and Evans with Howard. That’s a dangerous offense even without Joe. I can definitely see him do well there.

dude it's an awesome read - the stills were really useful too (my only suggestion would be if you listed the down and distance of the play in the examples you used so the situation is a little clearer in each instance)

EDIT:

and don't rush them if you dont have the time - as a reader id much rather you didnt feel rushed to get through them
I didn't even think to add down and distance, but yeah, I can for sure add that. That's a good suggestion.

the only reason i suggested it is because often the complaints that come in from fans about off coverage are about defenders playing off coverage with a 6-7 yard cushion even on 3rd and medium/short

I'm pretty interested to review some of those plays to see if they were actually running man to man. My guess is a man coverage and someone didn't hit their landmark fast enough, but we'll see. It is certainly frustrating.

I'll miss this:
