As far as defending the Pats on defense, they're multiple, which makes it more difficult. I think they'll struggle to move the ball on the perimeter against our secondary, but I could see Edelman eating us up out of the slot also.

I'll say the same thing I've been saying for over a month... if you turn the ball over against NE, you're done. Really doesn't matter what else you do. You start fumbling or if Lamar throws a pick or two, its a wrap. You've gotta win time of possession, you've got to sustain drives, and you have to protect the ball. You'll compete with them if you do.

even in our worst game of the year we went 140 yds rushing as a team - and that was against a pretty awesome defensive front in a slug-fest against the steelers

im not sure what a team can do to stop our running game - no team has really shown a blueprint of how to shut it down this year yet - maybe the pats do but its not as easy as simply saying load the box and sell out to stop the run especially with the way we can counter with the rpo and zone-read

Seattle played a lot of man cover and also had ho problem matching up with our receivers (although Andrews got open a good bit just couldn't catch the ball). The problem they had with man cover was getting spread out and were in no position to deal with Lamar when he took off.

I expect that Pats are not going to worry one bit about rushing Lamar. They will be focused on maintaining the pocket and slowly collapsing it. A free rusher has almost no chance at Lamar if they come full speed ahead at him. Give him nowhere to run and the sacks will happen.

While we had that great game in Seattle, I still feel like we're rather unproven. The upcoming stretch of game vs Pats, Texans, Rams and Niners will tell a lot about whether we are a true contender or if we are just hoping to get in the playoffs in a weak division and hope for the best.

I mean that's great, but like 140 rushing yards on 35-40 attempts isn't impressive at all, and all of it is meaningless if you can't score points. We could have 35-40 minutes of TOP, and if you're not scoring on most of your drives (at least FGs), I don't see how you can expect to win. We were fortunate to force turnovers against Seattle, but I'm not banking on Brady all of the sudden turning the ball over to us that often.

My dear friend, we're already at 5 wins. We have yet to play the Browns, Bengals and Steelers one more time. To me in my limited mathematics prowess it still works out 5+3 = 8 Wins.

But I understand the reasoning behind your post, but luckily I can do the same math as you and fully comprehend the enormity of your applied math concept that each team can only play their division opponent twice and hence play only 6 games against them.

I'm being tongue in cheek of course just in case....

3 more division games. Bills and Jets we should take. Rams are very beatable. Patriots, Texans, and Niners are at least at home. 10 wins should win the division. 12 should secure a bye depending on what happens in that Texans game.

Hollywood will stretch them more and make room in the middle for short/medium passes.
Pats are no supermen - Chubb alone ran them rugged and we should be able to do even better with Ingram and Edwards plus Lamar always a threat.
The Browns absolutely killed themselves with 3 TOs in the first quarter, giving 17 points on the plate, lost by 14. Seattle turned the ball over to us for 2 scores, otherwise it's a tie game.

We have to play smart and take care of the football, that is the first priority. Our running game should put us in the good position.

Two vivid lessons learned against the Patriots. One is run the ball a lot and two is hold on to the ball for dear life.
 
I went on the Browns forums just to see what is going on. Let me tell you that it was very amusing and almost lead me to make an account there simply because of how ill they talk about Lamar and his lacking of passing.


I wasn't even going to troll them either.

I had the same idea but their heads are stuck so far up their asses it's now impossible to pull them out.
 
Pats game is going to be fun, I want Bill to throw the kitchen sink at Lamar in terms of defensive schemes. Win or Lose, I want to see Lamar and this offense improve and have a more balanced attack

You forgot that we played the Ravens and Browns in the same week and lost to both. Hopefully we don’t drop another two games again because that would be devastating.

    Coach John Harbaugh said CB Jimmy Smith (knee) is "on track" to return from his injury following the team's Week 8 bye.
    Smith's presence will be much appreciated. The Ravens' sneaky-mediocre defense got a boost from recently-acquired CB Marcus Peters in Week 7, but Smith has been their long-time No. 1 CB and is a key defensive leader. Of course, the matchup couldn't be worse this week against Tom Brady and company.

  • MARQUISE BROWN WR, BALTIMORE RAVENS

    Coach John Harbaugh said WR Marquise Brown (ankle) is on track to suit up Sunday against the Patriots.
    Hollywood hasn't played since Week 5. The Ravens could certainly use the elite field-stretching ability that their first-round rookie offers, although this week's matchup against the Patriots' league-best defense is far from ideal. Brown's return would likely fellow rookie Miles Boykin back to the bench.
