The Random Thought Thread

Given the outcome of the Patriots and Texans games today, there is a chance that Houston could be eliminated from getting a BYE week if the Patriots win against the Bills. If Houston has the division wrapped up, they could sit starters against the Titans. Meaning if we beat Pittsburgh, and the Titans get an easy win, we could knock them out of the playoffs thanks to the help of the Texans. Would you still bench Lamar and more starters knowing the Texans were resting starters in Week 17?
We are resting starters and the whole team for the wild card week. According to Lamar’s own offseason coach he is a reps guy and is at his best when he can stay at it. Then the history points to resting players week 17 and then having a first round bye has disastrous results.

I don’t want to rest players week 17 under any circumstance, other than getting a lead and resting them the second half

Like @rossihunter2 , I didn't become a Ravens fan until 2010ish-11 so I never got to witness the first Super Bowl live. That's why to me, the 2012 Super Bowl meant more especially since we were playing the Niners. I mean, our household the previous year in the Conference Championship games were somber as hell given the way that we and the Niners lost to S/T miscues.

Like I was telling my dad (and quite frankly, anyone else), we NEEDED that win more than SF did. At the time, they looked like they had a few years in their Super Bowl window. This was it for us. Now if Lamar plays well and we win a Super Bowl with him being the MVP? Ohhhhh maaaaaaan, that'd be even better than the 2012 one.

Yeah I would hate it if we don't go all out to win that game regardless of the outcome of the Browns contest. Keep the pedal on the floor to keep up the momentum.

I’ve been hearing a lot of analysts who are scared to put the patriots to bed, under the rationale that they aren’t winning with style points like they did in the past, but they’re finding ways to win...

Funny, seems like that was a ravens theme for basically 20 years and the style points were the exact reason analysts would never give us credit or respect, but Now that the patriots are clinging to wins with ugly turnovers and defense and punt blocks, it’s the sign of a true champion.
The main reason analysts are afraid to predict the demise of the Pats is no so much because they are finding ways to win but that no one wants to predict the demise of Brady and they also understand that BB will sell his soul to get wins (something he has probably already done)

I believe any decision to rest or start starters week 17 will be about what is best for us and not what’s best for other teams. I don’t think impact on other teams will play into our decision. It’s about staying sharp v risk of injury. I think we go with staying sharp but if we suffer a significant injury it will never be lived down.

As Harbaugh said though. We’re not there yet. Let’s beat CLE then we’ll hear what the team is thinking.

Yeah lets beat Clev first. Seems like we're already taking this as a gimme game. If I were HC I'd let Yanda and Earl have the option of sitting which I don't see them taking. If we have a 3 TD lead at the start of the 4th then yeah start taking them out but I just cant see letting the Steelers have any "free" opportunity to win especially if playoffs are involved. Seriously if we're talking Derrick Henry being involved and worried about that...……..

The reason why I ask is because if they do, would we rest our starters after a series or two?
Harbs said decision hasn't been made yet. What is it going to be based on is unknown, I hope it's not on what other teams might or might not do these last two weeks. I think we need to play our starters vs Pittsburgh quite a bit if the Steelers start their best D - would be a good taste of what to expect come playoffs, especially since we'll get a bye week anyway in the WC round. But if Steelers rest their starters, I don't want our guys anywhere near Steelers reserves who would be desperate to make their case and do some dumb and dirty shit.

...well, big plays and good DEF have turned my last statement on its ear...

New thought, the Bills are the smallest stature team I can recall in recent memory. Their RB is 5'4' and there isn't one WR over 6'. Their two most productive WR's are under 6'.

Funny. I always valued hands over size and quickness over 40 times on an old board. No love. ;) Coming true now though with coaches who know how to utilize it.
