The Random Thought Thread

Just as a fun exercise rank which of these 4 scenarios is most likely to win this year's and this year's superbowl only.

1 The ravens as is right now.
2 Th saints as is right now.
3 The ravens if you swapped Lamar and Ingram for Brees and Thomas all else held constant.
4 The saints if you swapped Brees and Thomas for Lamar and Ingram all else held constant.

I'm going with option number 1. I'm not changing a thing...

I cannot believe how large of a discount he took. He could've made far more on the open market.

my guess is the 3 years was the important bit - he gets nearly 75% of the contract guaranteed at a competitive rate but also gets to hit the market again before he gets to 30 years old... guessing the slight discount was something to do with that

Some people like winning . Lamar will do the same when his rookie contract is up.

Lamar wants to win and if it requires taking less , he will do what Tom Brady has done and take less to keep important players. I'd bet the house on it.

I was expecting 15m average, but a big part of this deal was the guaranteed money (32m overall) and the 20.5 million in the first year. Not only that, he will only be 29 when he hits free agency.

Brady took a bit less because his wife is a billionaire, he doesn’t need money.

Tom Brady does not take less because he likes winning, he takes less because his wife makes 3x what he does and even if he took every penny Brady would still make less than half what his wife does. Lamar will probably get 40m and that will still be considered a discount

I wonder if that means the contract is frontloaded or if it means that they just made the signing bonus rather large.

Allot can happen between now and then but if he stays on the same trajectory he’s gonna get some stupid money thrown at him. The ravens will have pay up to keep him, but to your point I believe he would take less to help with cap space if it meant staying competitive as a team.
